Indian former PM Nehru wanted to grant citizenship to Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan's new movie 'Oppenheimer', based on the American physicist Robert J. Oppenheimer, has received magnificent response among moviegoers all over the globe .
The 723-page book based on the life of Indian nuclear research pioneer Homi Jahangir Bhaba was published in April this year. The book highlights Bhabha's friendship with Oppenheimer. Nehru offered Oppenheimer Indian citizenship through thinking. According to the author of the book, Oppenheimer and his wife Catherine were suspected of being attracted to communist ideology in America. As a result, his security was withdrawn in 1954 after an investigation was conducted and he was not associated with any government decisions thereafter. It was then that Nehru offered Oppenheimer Indian citizenship. However, Oppenheimer did not accept the proposal because he thought it would not be proper for him to leave America and go to another country until he was freed from the charges brought against him.
Hence Pandit Nehru's ideas of offering citizenship to Oppenheimer in order to push up India's nuclear future did not reach the desired results
