Wimbledon24 : Djokovic , Swiatek Start with Wins, Vondrousova crashes out

 


Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek began their Wimbledon campaigns with victories, both winning their first-round matches in straight sets.


Second seed Djokovic faced unseeded Vit Kopriva, losing only five games in the entire match. He dominated from the start, maintaining strong serves and giving Kopriva no opportunities to break. Djokovic broke Kopriva's serve six times, winning the first set 6-1 and continuing with 6-2 victories in the second and third sets.  Djokovic dod not show any discomfort with his recently operated right knee after he got injured during French open . 


Women's top seed Swiatek played against unseeded Sofia Kenin. Although Kenin managed to break Swiatek’s serve once, she couldn't capitalize on it. Swiatek won the first set 6-3 and secured the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set, though she faced more resistance.


In other matches, Alexander Zverev, the fourth seed, defeated Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets (6-2, 6-4, 6-2). However, sixth seed Andrey Rublev was ousted in the first round by Francisco Comesana, who won in four sets (6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6).


On the second day of Wimbledon, defending women's singles champion Marketa Vondrousova was eliminated in straight sets by Abasha Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. Vondrousova made 28 unforced errors in the first set, losing 6-4. Her performance declined further in the second set, marred by seven double faults and five broken serves, resulting in a 6-2 loss. Jessica’s excitement was evident as she celebrated the unexpected victory over the defending champion. 


Additionally, Britain's Andy Murray withdrew from the competition, adding to the day's notable events.


2022 Wimbledon womens champion  Elena Rybakina won her 1st round match while 

on day one Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner won their respective matches with ease
