Euro24: Dazzling Netherlands script emphatic win over Romania to cruise to QF

The Netherlands secured an effortless victory against Romania, scoring three goals across two halves to win 3-0 and advance to the quarter-finals of the Euro Cup. They will face the winner of the Austria vs. Türkiye match in the last eight.

This match showcased the Netherlands' best performance in the current Euro tournament. Although Romania had two early attacks within the first 15 minutes, the Dutch soon took control of the game, launching one attack after another. Dumfries was particularly impressive on the right wing, consistently outmaneuvering the Romanian defenders.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for the Netherlands 20 minutes into the game. He received the ball about 30 yards out on the left side, skillfully entered the box, and delivered a powerful right-footed shot that the Romanian goalkeeper couldn't stop, despite being at the near post. This marked Gakpo's third goal of the tournament. The Netherlands had opportunities to extend their lead in the first half, but Memphis Depay squandered his chance.

In the second half, the Netherlands intensified their attacks. In the 58th minute, Van Dijk's header was miraculously saved by Romanian goalkeeper Nita. Four minutes later, Gakpo made another long run and took a shot from outside the box, but luck was on Nita's side again. Gakpo found the net from a corner in the next minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

Despite this setback, the Netherlands continued to dominate. In the 83rd minute, Donil Malen scored the team's second goal with a pass from Gakpo. Malen then sealed the victory with a third goal in stoppage time. By the end, it was clear that Romania had given up. The Netherlands comfortably won 3-0.
