Indv SL: India win rain marred 2nd T20I to take unassailable series lead
India has secured victory in the first two matches of the T20 series against Sri Lanka. In a rain-affected game, India won by 7 wickets. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 161 runs. Due to rain, India’s target was revised to 78 runs in 8 overs, which they achieved with ease.
India had dominated with their batting in the first match. However, in the second match, it was India’s death-over bowling that caught the eye. In the last four overs, India took 7 wickets, halting Sri Lanka's progress. Sri Lanka had been in a strong position at 130 for 2 courtesy sublime Nissanka (32) and belligerent Kusal Parera (53) but collapsed to 161 for 9, losing 7 wickets in just four overs. Hardik Patel, Ravi Bishnoi (3/26) and Axar Patel were instrumental in applying pressure on Sri Lanka.
The match started late due to rain. When India began their innings, rain interrupted again after just three balls, causing a significant delay. The match resumed with a reduced number of overs, setting India's target to 78 runs in 8 overs. Despite the challenging target of nearly 10 runs per over, India managed comfortably.
Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a boundary off the first ball he faced. Sanju Samson, on the other hand, got out on the first ball he faced. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Yashasvi quickly began scoring runs. Yashasvi raced to 30 runs off 15 balls, and Suryakumar added 26 runs off 12 balls. After their dismissal, Hardik Pandya ensured India’s victory with an unbeaten 22 runs off 9 balls, alongside Rishabh Pant who remained not out on 2.
