West Indies collapse on 4th day as England take 2-0 unassailable series lead
The West Indies were back at their mediocre standards as they collapsed in the 2nd innings in a tame performance after fighting England all the way through in the 2nd test at Nottingham.
The West Indies' batting was praised in the first innings, but it collapsed in the second. They lost by 241 runs on the fourth day, finishing their second innings at a paltry 143 runs.
England had scored 416 runs in their first innings, thanks to a century by Ollie Pope. In response, the West Indies managed to score 457 runs at Trent Bridge, taking a lead of 41 runs. Kavem Hodge scored a century for the Caribbean side, while Joshua Da Silva played an important innings of 82 runs, remaining unbeaten.
In their second innings, England posted a big total. After a belligerent start from Duckett (76) and Pope (51) , Joe Root and Harry Brook took over and both scored dazzling centuries, with Root making a well compiled 122 runs and Brook scored a dazzling 109 runs . Riding on their performances, England put up 425 runs even though the lower half didn't contribute much.
Chasing a target of 385 runs, the West Indies quickly lost six wickets for just 91 runs after they were at 61/0 at one stage . Captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored 47 runs, but the other batters fell one after another. There was some late resistance from Holder (37) but in vain. English spinner Shoaib Bashir took five wickets extractimg enough turn from the pitch , while Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes each took two wickets. Mark Wood claimed one wicket. Pope was the player of the match with scores of 121 & 51 . England now leads the series 2-0, with the final Test to be held in Birmingham.
