Wimbledon24: Alcaraz win epic 4 hour battle vs Tifoe , Zverev, Medvedev, Raducanu advance

Carlos Alcaraz had to fight for 3 hours and 51 minutes in the third round of Wimbledon.  The last-time winner advanced to the fourth round of the competition by defeating Frances Tiafoe in five sets (5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2).

Two competitors compete for each game on center court.  Ground strokes, volleys, drop shots, net games were all seen.  In a tight match, Tiafoe went ahead once and Alcaraz fought back in the next set.  In the end, the men's third-seeded experience paid off.

Alcaraz entered this match after winning the last 10 matches at Wimbledon.  But he lost the first set against Tiafoe.  Both were holding serve in the first 10 games.  Tiafoe broke Alcaraz's serve in the 11th game.  He then held his serve and won the first set.

Alcaraz returned to the match in the second set.  He broke Tiafoe's service.  In the second set Alcaraz did not let the opponent stand.  Played his familiar drop shot.  Power shots are also seen as well.  Alcaraz won the second set.

The third set went to Tiafoe.  Again he broke Alcaraz's serve.  Every game was a struggle.  Tiafoe signaled the incident by winning the third set.  But Alcaraz once again showed how a champion player returns to the game.  Both held their serve in the fourth set.  The game goes to a tiebreaker.  Alcaraz blazed away in the tie breaker with ease.

The match was decided in the fifth set.  Alcaraz looked more aggressive as time went on.  Tiafoe, on the other hand, was somewhat tired.  As a result, Tiafoe made  mistakes in the fifth set.  Alcaraz took advantage of those mistakes and won the match to give the fifth set.

"Tiafoe is a very tough opponent," Alcaraz said after the match.  It is not easy to play against him.  I have faced enough challenges.  Every point was fought for.  Finally won.  There is a lot of relief now.”

Meanwhile Alexander Zverev , Daniil Medvedev won their respective matches with comparitive ease though Medvedev won in 4 sets .  Emma Raducanu continued her good form & resurgence by beating Sakkari in straight sets as did Coco Gauff .
