Euro24 : Dazzling Spain outplay gallant Georgia 4-1 to move to QF in style

As the Euro Cup progresses, Spain are becoming more devastating.  They beat Georgia 4-1 in the pre-quarter finals of the Euro Cup on Sunday.  It also fell behind by one goal.  Georgia's dream run to the knockouts ended with defeat to Spain and a Euro appearance.  Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo scored for Spain.  Georgia's only goal was an own goal by Robin Le Norman.  Spain will play host nation Germany in the quarter finals.

Spain had control of the ball from the start of the match.  Alvaro Morata and Ruiz had chances early on.  But Georgia was desperate to defend.  Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadashvili saved Dani Carvajal's shot from a corner in the 6th minute.

But there was no talk of leaving Georgia.  They were always waiting for every attack.  Whenever a Spanish player lost the ball, Georgia were quick to attack.  They scored while doing that.  After 18 minutes, Khavicha Kavartskelia received the ball on the right.  He floated the ball into the box.  It eluded two Spain defenders and went to a player from Georgia.  Before him, Robin Le Norman of Spain came forward to stop him.  The ball hit his belly and went into his own goal.  Goalkeeper Unai Simeon had nothing to do.  The Euro Cup sees yet another own goal.

Even if the goal is scired by Georgia, the ball continued to move at the feet of the Spanish footballers.  27 minutes into the match a statistic was shown.  Georgia only played 42 passes.  Spain played 238 matches there.  Ball possession 78-22 in favor of Spain.  The entire game started in Georgia's half.

Spain benefited from maintaining pressure.  They equalized in the 39th minute.  Nico Williams receives the ball on the left wing.  He cut through Georgia's defence and passed to Rodri outside the box.  Rodri hit a left-footed shot into the net.

The game of Spain did not change in the second half.  They started attacking from the beginning.  Luis de la Fuente's side are used to playing pressing football alongside tikitaka.  Despite using that strategy against Georgia, they could not open the goal.  That opportunity comes in 50 minutes.  Spain received a free kick just outside the box.  Mamadashvili saved Lemine Yamal's shot by leaping to the right.  The ball turns to Yamal's feet.  This time Ruiz headed in his perfect cross.

It was thought that Georgia would turn around after scoring a goal.  They also created that opportunity several times.  But no strategy worked against the aggressor Spain.  Conversely, as the game progressed, Spain's attacks became sharper.  Nico Williams scored in the 75th minute.  Almost the entire Georgia team went into Spain's half to repay the goal.  Ruiz passed the ball to Williams after receiving the ball outside their own penalty box.  Williams scored by pulling the ball alone.

Spain scored the fourth goal ten minutes later.  Georgia defenders could not clear the ball in their own half.  The ball went right outside the box and landed at Dani Olmo's feet.  The Spanish footballer scored a low shot to complete a fabulous  win .
