India v Protea women T20I series end 1-1 after hosts wins in ODIs , test

After emphatic wins in the ODI series (3-0) & the one off test (10 wickets) the Indian women were challenged by their South Africa counterparts in the T20I series which was played at Chennai

In the first game , South Africa batting first piled on a mammoth 189/4 with Tazmin Brits scoring a brilliant 57 ball 81 after a steady start with Laura Wolvaardt (33) . Brits partnership with an aggressive Marizanne Kapp (33 ball 57 ) stage the stage for a big South African total . Pooja Vastrakar with 2 wickers was the most impressive bowler.

In reply the hosts were well restricted . Mandhana (46) looked good once again but Shafali (18) , Hemlata (17) and Harmanpreet (35) could not force the pace . Towards the end Jemima with her valiant 30 ball 53 tried hard to win the game but India fell  12 runs short as overall the South African bowling did very well to restrict the aggressive Indian batting .

The second T20i again saw South Africa batting very well rattling up 177 with crucial contributions from Wolvaardt (22) , Kapp (20) , Bosch (40) and Brits (52) getting another 50 . There were good lower order contributions taking tge visitors to 177  . Once again Pooja and Deepti taking 2 wickets apiece.  However India could not start their innings due to persistent rain and it was a no result with the Proteas maintaining their 1-0 lead .

However India hit back hard in the final  T20I as their bowlers were outstanding in restricting  South Africa to a meagre 84 allout . Only 3 SA batters could get to double figures - Brits(20) , Kapp (14) and Bosch (17) . Pooja Vastrakar was the chief wreaker with 4/13 as her pace and bounce proved tough for the Proteas . Radha Yadav took 3 wickets. Indian fielding was top notch too after it was patchy in the previous 2 games . In reply Smriti Mandhana (54*) signed off the series in style with another  sublime batting display and along with Shafali Verma (27*) ensured that India won by a crushing 10 wickets margin  and square the series 1-1.

Pooja Vastrakar won the player of the match and the player of the T20I series ( 8 wickets ) .
