Olympics24 : Manu delivers again , Another bronze for India in shooting
After Sunday, India secured two more medals on Tuesday at the Paris Olympics, both won by Manu Bhaker. The first was in the individual 10-meter air pistol event, and the second in the mixed event with Sarabjot Singh. Now, Manu has her sights set on the 25-meter pistol event.
India won a bronze medal in the 10-meter air pistol mixed event. Manu Bhaker earned her second medal, as India claimed bronze in both the individual and mixed categories. Manu and Sarabjot Singh defeated South Korea with a score of 16-10.
In their first series against South Korea on Tuesday, India lost points but came back strong, winning the next four series to take the lead. Though it seemed like an easy victory, South Korea fought back but never managed to overtake India. In the end, Manu and Sarabjot secured the bronze with a 16-10 score.
Manu is ranked fifth in the world in the 10-meter air pistol category. She finished third in the Olympics, earning a bronze. In the 25-meter pistol, however, she is ranked much lower at 69th. Despite this, the Indian team remains hopeful because Manu won gold in this event at last year's World Championships and the 2022 Asian Games, where she also won silver and bronze in the World Cup.
The qualification round for the women's 25-meter pistol event begins on Friday at 12:30 PM IST, starting with the precision round followed by the rapid round. The top eight from these rounds will qualify for the final, which will take place on Saturday, June 3, at 1 PM IST.
India holds the world record in the women's 25-meter pistol event. Rhythm Sangwan set a world record with a score of 595 in Baku last year, although she is not competing for India in this event at the Olympics. Instead, Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh will compete on Friday, with the final scheduled for Saturday.
