Sri Lanka women beat Pakistan in a S/F thriller after Chamari special

The Women's Asia Cup final will be contested between India and Sri Lanka. In the semi-final, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan, winning with one ball to spare. Chasing Pakistan's 140-run target, Sri Lanka secured victory with three wickets remaining.

In the semi-final, Pakistan batted first. Openers Gul Feroza (25) and Muneeba Ali (37) formed a 61-run partnership, suggesting a large total for Pakistan. However, their batting lineup collapsed after both were dismissed in the same over. Captain Nida Dar and Fatima Sana both scored 23 runs but couldn't help their team reach 150, ending their innings at 140. Credit goes to Sri Lanka's Sugandika Kumari, who, despite not taking any wickets in her four overs, conceded only 16 runs and effectively restricted the scoring in the middle overs.

Chasing the 141-run target set by Pakistan, Sri Lanka lost Vishmi Gunaratne in the first over. Harshitha Samarawickrama (12), Kavisha Dilhari (17), and Nilakshi de Silva (0) didn’t contribute much. However, opener Chamari Athapaththu anchored one end, scoring a superb 63 runs and staying at the crease until the 17th over while playing dazzling shots but got out to an ill advised reverse sweep to put the game in the balance. Anushka Sanjeewani  played a vital role, scoring an unbeaten 24 runs off 22 balls, guiding her team to victory in high tension .

On Sunday, Sri Lanka will face India in the Women's Asia Cup final. The match will begin at 3 PM in Dambulla. The Indian women's team will aim for their eighth Asia Cup title, with Athapaththu's team standing in their way.
