It truly happened: Colombia defeated Uruguay 1-0 in the Copa America 2024 semi-final. Jefferson Lerma scored the match's only goal. Despite Colombia being down to 10 men for a significant portion of the game, Uruguay couldn't equalize. Colombia will face Messi's Argentina in the final.
Uruguay, a 15-time champion, was in excellent form during this tournament. However, on Thursday morning (Indian time), Colombia emerged victorious after a tense match. From the very start, both teams fiercely contested each other. Although Uruguay had a slight edge, Colombia held their ground firmly. In the first half, Rodriguez advanced the play, leading to Lerma's goal in the 39th minute. He headed in Rodriguez's corner kick, sending the ball into the net and putting Colombia ahead.
A setback hit Colombia shortly after when Daniel Munoz received a red card, forcing them to play the entire second half with 10 men. Despite this disadvantage, Colombia's defence withstood Uruguay's aggressive attacks. Uruguay came out strong in the second half, but Nunez and Suarez couldn't find the back of the net. Luis Suarez squandered two opportunities, including one shot that hit the bar. Meanwhile, Colombia had two clear chances during Uruguay's onslaught but failed to score again. Consequently, the game concluded with a 1-0 victory for Colombia.
