EngvWI : England win test series 3-0 after Wood destroyed Windies on day 4
England triumphed in all three Tests against the West Indies, securing a comprehensive 10-wicket victory in the final Test at Birmingham. Chasing a modest target of 82 runs in the last innings, Ben Stokes and his team achieved the win with ease. However, this victory did not improve England’s position in the World Test Championship standings.
Despite winning all three Tests against the Caribbean side, England remained in sixth place. They have earned 57 points from 13 matches, with a points percentage of 36.54. Pakistan, in fifth place, has a slightly better percentage of 36.66. India leads the standings with a points percentage of 68.52.
In the third Test, the West Indies were bowled out on the first day, scoring 282 runs in their first innings. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite (61), Jason Holder (59), and Joshua Da Silva (49) were the only notable contributors. England's Gus Atkinson took four wickets, and Chris Woakes claimed three, ending the West Indies' innings.
England started their innings and lost three wickets on the first day but capitalized on the second day. Joe Root (87) and Jamie Smith (95) guided the team to a total of 376 runs, giving England a lead of 94 runs. In their second innings, the West Indies were bowled out for 175 runs, setting England a target of just 82 runs, which they chased without any trouble.
In the West Indies 2nd innings only 2 batters performed abd reached fifties. M Lewis (57) and Kavem Hodge (55) both batted impressively but did not get any support as Mark Wood with his full fast deliveries was too hot to handle for the weak Windies middle order . Wood took 5/40 to ensure that England did not chase even a 100 in 4th innings .
Zak Crawley was injured and couldn’t open in the second innings, so Stokes took his place. England scored quickly, reminiscent of a T20 match. Stokes made a half-century, scoring a blistering 55 off 28 balls, including one six and nine fours. The other opener, Ben Duckett, scored 25 runs. Wood was the player of the match for his 7 wickets in the game .
