Copa24: Uruguay overcome stiff resistance from USA to sail into next round with all win reord

Three consecutive wins.  In one, the opponent was blown away by five goals.  All in all, the unstoppable Uruguay reached the last eight of the Copa America.  They lost to the United States in a penalty shootout on Tuesday.  Uruguay secured three points by winning 1-0.  Mathias Olivera scored the winning goal.

La Celestera confirmed their place in the Copa America 2024 quarter-finals by beating Bolivia 5-0 in the last match.  However, the United States gave a tough match to Uruguay in the regulation match.  From fighting for possession to shots on goal - in almost every case, the two teams battled it out.  Even the same number of passes played by two teams!  But Uruguay had the last laugh.  They reached the knockout stages of the Copa America with nine points from three matches.

Uruguay played against host country America at Arrowhead Stadium today.  If they won today, the United States also has the possibility of reaching the last eight.  So from the beginning they started to play with solid defense against Uruguay.  In the first half of the match, both teams created several opportunities, but in the end, no goal was scored.

But in the second half, Olivera opened the scoring.  The only goal of the match came from his feet in the 66th minute.  Although many claim that Oliveira was offside.  The referee didn't think so though.  That shot is considered as a valid goal.  After conceding a goal, American footballers play more aggressive football with more desperation.  But could not break through the Uruguayan defense.  The host country America (USA) was knocked out of the tournament as a result of the loss.
