WI v Eng T20I series hots up with great Eng run chase in 3rd match ? WI lead 2-1
West Indies and England are locked in a thrilling T20I series in the Carribean. The hosts have won the first two games showing better all round game but England batters bounced back in style with a terrific run chase in the 3rd game to reduce the series margin at 2-1 and two more games to go .
In the 1st T20I Phil Salt's blazing 20 ball 40 and Buttler's 39 and later Livingstone (27) cameo helped England to get 171 but good batting from King (a quick 22) , Mayers (35) and Hope (36) set up the base after which Rovman Powell ( 15 ball 31) and Andre Russell ( 14 ball 29) resorted to brutal hitting to win the game by 4 wickets in the 19th over . Earlier Russell had taken 3/19 to show his bowling skills and picked up the man of the match.
In the second T20I , West Indies again batted first and this time Brendon King plundered a blistering 82 off 52 balls and later Rovman Powell slashed 50 off 28 balls to taken the hosts to 176/7 in 20 overs . Admist the carnage , Adil Rashid was brilliant with 2/11 off 4 overs that kept West Indies to a manageable score .
In reply England didnt have the best of starts but Salt (25) and Jacks (24) tried to repair the damage but it was not until Sam Curran played a blazing knock of 50 off 32 balls and Moeen ( 22 off 13 balls ) nearly rescued England but in the end , the tourists were 10 runs short . For the hosts Alzarri Joseph (3 /39) and Akeil Hosein (2/24) shared the spoils with Brendon King picking up the man of the match award for his blistering 82.
With West Indies taking a 2-0 lead, T20I World champs England needed a must win in the 3rd T20I to keep the series alive .
In the 3rd game West Indies batting first did lose early wickets but finally Nicholas Pooran came into his own and played a blistering knock of 82 off just 45 balls and supported well by Hope (26) and the big hitters Powell (39) , Rutherford (29) and Holder (18) as West Indies piled on a mammoth 222/6 . Curran and Rashid took 2 wickets each .
In reply England came out all guns blazing . Phil Salt looked in imperious form and Jos Buttler finally started looking good with a rapid 34 ball 51 .
After 115 run blistering stand in 11.2 overs Buttler departed and Jacks (1) followed soon but Salt carried on in his blistering mood and had a companion in Livingstone who played a 18 ball 30 but it was Harry Brook who came out and played an absolute blinder along with the belligerent Salt . 50 was required in last 3 overs but Salt (109 off 56) and Brook (31 in 7 balls) plundered the runs and Brook smashed the 21 required in the last over as England won by 7 wickets on the penultimate ball . Salt was the player of the match for his explosive century .
With the series now 2-1 , the last two games promises to be a cracker .
