Phil Salt heroics not enough to stop Windies winning T20I series 3-2 vs World champs England

After England won the 3rd T20I to reduce the series score to 2-1 on the back of an excellent attacking century from Salt , the world champions scripted a massive 75 run win to level the series after another again even more attacking 100 from Phil Salt  .

However after yet another promising start from Salt , T20I world champions England put up a mediocre batting display to hand over a series deciding win to the hosts after an excellent competitive series which ended 3-2 .

With the series at 1-2 , Phil Salt butchered the England attack in the fourth T20I to post an explosive 119 off just 57 balls that included 10 mighty sixes . Buttler gave him company with a blistering  55 in 29 balls as they added 117 in just 10 overs.  After Jacks played a 9 ball 24 run cameo , Liam Livingstone cane out and launched a fierce onslaught on the West Indies bowlers to score a power packed 21 ball 54 not out as England posted a humongous 267/3 in twenty overs.

In reply West Indies too went hammer and tongs but kept losing wickets . There were flashes of brilliance and short lived onslaughts from Pooran ( 39 off 15 ) , skipper Powell (36 off 15 ) and at the end Russell ( 51 off 25) but none of those knocks lasted long enough to get closer to England score as West Indies were 192 all out in 16th over . Topley taking 3 wickets with Sam Curran and Rehan Ahmed taking 2 wickets each .

With the series 2-2,  the 5th T20I started with Salt again threatening to play another destructive knock but this time he was cut short by a beautiful Motie delivery for 38 off just 21 balls . Wickets tumbled elsewhere and only Livingstone (29) and Moeen showed glimpses of brilliance as England ended at 132 allout with Motie taking 3/24 in 4 overs to claim the man of the match award . 2 wickets each to Russell , Holder and Hosein .

In reply West Indies did lose early wickets of King and Pooran (10) but Charles (27) played a good knock and then Shai Hope (43*) stabilised the innings with Rutherford (30) . Though there were some late fall of wickets , Hope ensured that the hosts get over the line to script a great 3-2 series win over T20I World champions England .  This win will give a lot of hope for the West Indies in the coming T20I World cup at home in June 2023 where they can compete as one of the contenders after this encouraging result .

Phil Salt after his breathtaking  331 runs at  83 average and an astounding 187 strike rate  in this series was adjudged the player of the series . It was a top class reply to the IPL snub at the latest auctions .
