South Africa register clinical 8 wkt win v India to square series , Zorzi hits glorious ton

South Africa has made a great comeback in the three-match ODI series.  They won the second ODI by eight wickets at St. George's Park, Gaqberah.  With this victory, they levelled the 3 match  series at 1-1.  India won the first match by eight wickets in Johannesburg in grand style .  The third and last match of the series will be played on 21 December in Paarl.

This is India's fifth defeat against South Africa at St. George's Park.  Here India has won and lost only one match against the host team.  India has lost against South Africa here in 1992, 1997, 2006, 2011 and 2023.  The only victory was in 2018.

In the match, South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bowl.  His decision proved correct.  Team India was reduced to 211 runs in 46.2 overs.  In reply, South Africa won the match by scoring 215 runs for two wickets in 42.3 overs.  For that, young opener Tony Di Zorzi scored his first ODI century.

Tony Di Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks made a great start while chasing the target of 212 runs.  Both of them made a partnership of 130 runs for the first wicket.  Hendricks became the victim of Arshdeep Singh after scoring a well made 52 runs in 81 balls but was dropped early by Gaikwad off a simple slip chance .  After him, Rassie Van der Dussen and the long haired Zorzi together took the team closer to victory.  Dussen was out after scoring 36 runs on 51 balls.  He was dismissed  by Rinku Singh caught  at the hands of wicketkeeper KL Rahul.  A delighted Rinku took the first wicket in his very first ODI.  Zorzi remained unbeaten on a dazzling  119 off 122 balls and captain Aiden Markram remained unbeaten on two runs. Zorzi hit nine fours and six sixes. He played some glorious drives and hit 6 breathtaking sixes

Sai Sudarshan made the highest score of 62 runs for India studded with some sparkling drives and flicks .  This is the second match of his career and he has made  half-centuries in both the matches.  Captain KL Rahul played a fine  innings  of 56 runs and hit some glorious shots . Both Rahul and Sai had a crucial partnership after Burger with his pace and hostility dismissed Ruturaj (lbw for 4 ) and Tilak ( caught off pull for 10  ) cheaply.

Rinku Singh could score only 17 runs in his debut ODI but started well with 3 delightful shots including a 6 before getting stumped off Maharaj  .  Sanju Samson was out  bowled after scoring 10 runs . Arshdeep Singh scored 18 runs towards the end . Avesh Khan was out after scoring nine, Akshar Patel scored seven,  Kuldeep Yadav was out after scoring one run.  Mukesh Kumar scored four unbeaten runs.  Nandre Berger took three wickets for South Africa.  Buren Hendrix and Keshav Maharaj got two successes each.  Lizaad Williamson and Aiden Markram took one wicket each.

Zorzi was the obvious player of the match after his dazzling century .
