Dunki gets released - SRK sparkles again , how was the film?
Shahrukh Khan returned to the big screen with 'Pathan' in January this year. However, seeing 'Jawan' in September made Shahrukh-fans craze even more. In addition to the action avatar, the story of the film is also quite tense this time. Apart from action, the screenplay has romance, dance-songs, social messages, multiple sub-plots, double roles, twists - all. Not exactly like a Bollywood movie, a southern style movie. Whatever it is, the audience is happy. The box office is happier. After that, the king returned holding his brother's hand. He had a cameo in Salman Khan's 'Tiger 3' for a few moments. Even the biggest Salman-fans will agree, Shahrukh's presence in the entire film was the most exciting moment. After all this, when Shah Rukh is returning to the big screen with his third film (Tiger 3 is better off) at the end of the year, it is natural that the expectations are sky high. Especially when it's Rajkumar Hirani's film. Who himself is returning after five years of 'Sanju'.
Some images flash in the viewer's mind when he mentions Raju Hirani's film. The screenplay will progress through multiple characters. Social message will be under the disguise of comedy. There will be romance, dancing and singing. There will be a very subtle patriotism, not of a high degree. All in all, what is called 'Masala Bollywood Movie' is found in the magic touch of this director. He did not direct many films. But those which he have done, all are super hits. As a result, all the leading actors and actresses of Bollywood want to have Raju Hirani's film in their filmography. Apart from Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor, he has worked with only one Khan so far - Aamir Khan. Aamir already has two Raju Hirani hit films. So Bollywood is shaken when the news of making a film with the second Khan spreads. Although it took a long time to make the film, it was finally released at a time when the frenzy about the king was at its peak. As a result, although there was not much fuss about the promotion of the film, there was no difficulty in the advance booking of the film. The house is full according to the 'first day first show' tradition. However, the audience who were enamored with Shahrukh in action this year, Raju Hirani gave them back the old king. On the big screen, Shah Rukh is the 'King of Romance' this time.
Five friends want to reach London from Punjab. There are five types of reasons for leaving home. Of course, Shahrukh aka Hardy is their leader. They are not able to take the visa directly. So Hardy decides, they will reach London by donkey. Many were confused because the name of the film was 'Dunki'. But the break was understood to be a few minutes earlier, the illegal route through which thousands of people entered England from India through the eyes of the security guards, called the 'Dunky Route'. Like any Rajkumar film, the story of this film is eventful. However, the script has been arranged keeping in mind that Shahrukh Khan is the hero of the story. So in Shahrukh's 'opening' scene, Boman Irani's voice comes out, 'Let's see if Hardy can do a hat-trick this time'. No, Shahrukh's signature pose of two arms outstretched is not in the picture. But seeing him get off the train will definitely remind you of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'. His character and attire will evoke memories of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. Seeing the plot line of waiting for the heroine without getting married for years, 'Veer Zara' will appear in front of the audience's eyes. Seeing Shahrukh in dance-singing scene is bound to remind of his various romantic films. Shah Rukh's heroine in this film is Taapsee Pannu. Taapsee is one of the most powerful actresses in Bollywood. But here she and Shahrukh's chemistry is not right. At times one may think, how would it have been if there was an actress like Anushka Sharma instead. Of course, it doesn't matter to the king. Because, he is the 'King of Romance'. Romantic Shahrukh does not need anyone. He can still create magic on screen for two and a half hours alone. He did the same here. While most of the credit goes to Shah Rukh, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar and Boman Irani can't be ignored in the film's supporting roles. Vicky has proved his class in a few minutes of presence. Just like 'Kamli' did in 'Sanju'.
Vikram's comic timing is quite a bit ahead of the rest. Rajkumar has always given Boman special roles in his films. As a result, his words will be remembered separately. However, there is a bit of negligence in writing the characters this time. Rajkumar co-wrote the screenplay with Kanika Dhillon and Abhijit Joshi. Although there are some witty dialogues, there are no 'hook words' like 'All Is Well' from 'Three Idiots' or 'Ghapaghap' from 'Sanju'. Like the rest of the director's films, music is not a strong point in this film. Apart from Arijit Singh's 'Lootput Gaya', the rest of the songs in the film will not be memorable.
The most common aspect of the story with the rest of Rajkumar's films is the director's affection and compassion for characters like 'Idiot', 'Joker', 'Numna'. Rajkumar has always loved telling stories of common people. His heroes are not yet alpha males. His characters do not hover over society. Still working people can be seen in his pictures. It was no different here. At the end of the day, 'Dunki' has managed to become an admirable 'Raju Hirani film', but has not been able to touch the magic of 'Munnabhai MBBS' or 'Three Idiots'.
Shah Rukh Khan started this year. He will finish. The actor came up with 'Dunki' this year for those who were jealous of Shah Rukh for changing himself as the list of hits in the bag was empty. It is good to remind the audience that even though Shah Rukh was seen in full action avatar for the first time this year, patriotism has always been present in his films. 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani', 'Swadesh', 'Chak De India'—examples in his film career are many. 'Pathan' had only that patriotism in it. In 'Jawaan' it was played on the loudspeaker. But with 'Dunki', Badsha returned to his own style of patriotism. Not only 'King of Romance', Shahrukh Khan also returned to 'Bollywood' by holding Rajkumar Hirani's hand.
