IPL2024 Auctions : Starc , Cummins create history getting big money , Coetzee, Rachin new IPL faces

IPL 2024 auction is over.  The fate of more than 300 players was at stake in this mini auction.  However, bids were placed on only 72 of those players.  Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the most expensive player in the auction.  He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a historic  Rs 24.75 crore.  Whereas, Pat Cummins was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore one hour earlier setting the Newell time  record only to be broken after Starc bidding .  In this auction, bids of Rs 10 crore or more were placed on six players.  A total of 39 players became millionaires.  That means bids worth Rs 1 crore or more were placed on them.

Harshal Patel was the most expensive Indian player  in the auction.  He was bought by Punjab Kings for a mind boggling Rs 11.75 crore. The highly rated big hitter  Sameer Rizvi was the most expensive uncapped player of this auction.  He was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 8.40 crore.  Before the auction, all the teams had a total of Rs 262.95 crore to spend.  The 10 teams spent a total of Rs 230.45 crore.  A total of nine uncapped players became millionaires in this auction and all are Indians.

This was the mini auction of IPL, but it destroyed all the records from 2008 till now.  For the first time in IPL the bidding crossed Rs 20 crore.  The biggest bids in the history of the league were made on Mitchell Starc (24.75 crores, KKR), Pat Cummins (20.5 crores, SRH), and Australian  cricketers were the center of attraction for the bidding.  The announcement of availability of this country's top cricketers in the league resulted in IPL teams opening their treasury on them.

Very few people know the name of left arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson, but Gujarat invested Rs 10 crore on this cricketer who bowls quick and has a great presence in BBL  .  Travis Head (6.8 crores), who scored a century in the World Cup final & WTC final to torment India twice , was taken by Sunrisers Hyderabad and fast bowler Jhye Richardson (5 crores) was taken by Delhi.  Australian cricketers got the benefit of IPL teams' need for fast bowlers and all-rounders.  Due to this need of the teams, Daryl Mitchell (14 crores), Harshal Patel (11.75 crores) and Alzarri Joseph (11.5 crores) also became rich.

UP cricketers left their mark in the bidding.  CSK invested Rs 8.40 crore on Meerut's Sameer Rizvi, who was unknown to the world till now.  Rizvi received the award for his excellent performance in the UP T-20 League.  Whereas in IPL, Prayagraj's Yash Dayal, who conceded five consecutive sixes in one over from Rinku Singh, was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 5 crore.  Noida's Shivam Mavi was once again the attraction of IPL teams.  After Gujarat, this time Lucknow Supergiants spent Rs 6.4 crore on him.  Hapur's Kartik Tyagi was included in their team by Gujarat Titans for 60 lakhs.

New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga, India's Shardul Thakur and England's Harry Brook were expected to get huge sums of money, but on the contrary, Rachin, with a base price of Rs 50 lakh, was sold to Chennai Super Kings for just Rs 1.5 crore and Shardul for Rs 4 crore.  Bought.  Hasaranga went to the Hyderabad camp only for the base price of Rs 1.5 crore.  At the same time, Brook, who was bought by Hyderabad for Rs 1.25 crore in the previous bid, was included in their team by Delhi for Rs 4 crore.  Hazlewood had made it clear that he would be available for the league in May, so no team took him.

RCB had bought Harshal Patel for Rs 10.75 crore last time.  This time it seemed that Harshal would not get such a big bid, but he destroyed all the guesses.  Punjab took him for 11.75 crores.  Umesh Yadav was taken by Gujarat for 5.8 crores.

This time the teams were very kind to the uncapped cricketers also.  Jharkhand's wicket-keeper batsman Robin Minz,  was bought by Gujarat for Rs 3.60 crore.  Everyone was surprised to see the ongoing war between the franchises to include him in their team.  M Siddharth was bought by Lucknow for 2.4 crores, Jharkhand's wicket-keeper batsman Kumar Kushagra was bought by Delhi for 7.2 crores, Sumit Kumar was bought by Delhi for 1 crore, Shubham Dubey was bought by Rajasthan for 5.8 crores.  IPL made all of them millionaires for the first time.
