Bowlers shine as India taken unassailable 3-1 lead over Aus in T20I series
Recovering from the defeat in the final overs onslaught by Maxwell in Guwahati, Team India defeated Australia in the fourth T20 match. In this match played in Raipur, due to the strong performance of the bowlers, Team India defended the score of 174 and defeated Australia by 20 runs and won the series one match earlier. Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma played fast-paced innings for Team India, after which the spin pair of Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi eliminated Australia from the match.
Australian captain Matthew Wade won the toss at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium Raipur on the evening of Friday 1st December but was deceived by the circumstances under which he decided to bowl first. In the last T20 played in Guwahati, Australia took advantage of dew while chasing and achieved the target of 223 runs. This time there was no effect of dew and the Indian spinners did not even allow the target of 175 to be achieved.
Once again Yashasvi Jaiswal made a bright start for Team India and took the team beyond 50 runs by the sixth over itself. However, he lost his wicket on the last ball of the powerplay and could not convert the good start into a big score but played several gorgeous shots in his 28 ball 37 . Jaiswal's onedrive off Dwarshuis was the shot of the day . Shreyas Iyer, who returned to the team after a brilliant World Cup, did not make a good comeback out for 8 , while captain Suryakumar Yadav (1) also got away cheaply this time. From here Ruturaj Gaikwad along with Rinku Singh took the team beyond 100 runs.
While trying to increase the run rate, Ruturaj (32) became the victim of spinner Tanveer Sangha in the 14th over. From here Rinku took over the innings and got good support from Jitesh Sharma, who was playing his first match in this series. This Vidarbha wicketkeeper, who came in place of Ishan Kishan, counter-attacked and scored 35 explosive runs in just 19 balls with some stunning sixes . On the basis of this, Team India seemed to be getting closer to a good score. However, Australia restricted the team to 174 runs by taking 5 wickets, spending only 13 runs in the 19th and 20th overs. Rinku finally fell for another confident knock of 46 off 29 balls . For the Aussies Dwarshuis took 3 wickets and two each were shared by Behrendorff and Sanga .
Australia made a explosive start in reply. Travis Head scored 22 runs in Deepak Chahar's over and thus Australia scored 40 runs in just 3 overs. From here the Indian spinners started tightening the noose and it started with the first ball of the fourth over. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi (1/17) bowled opener Josh Philippe (8), while Axar Patel provided the biggest success in the very next over. While trying to play a big shot on his ball, Head (31) got caught. After this the Australian batsmen kept getting stuck.
The absence of dew on the field also had its impact here and the Indian spin pair had no trouble at all in gripping the ball. Akshar also bowled Aaron Hardie in his second over. Ben McDermott and Tim David (8) were handling the innings but in the 12th over, Akshar again wreaked havoc and McDermott (19) was bowled. Australian batsmen kept missing straight balls while trying to play big shots on spinners and kept getting bowled. After this no Australian batsman could survive. Australian captain Matthew Wade (36 not out) also could not lead the team to victory despite playing some glorious shots .
Man of the match Akshar Patel with 3/16 and Bishnoi with 1/17 were the best bowlers for India
With this victory India has managed to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the 5 match T20I series with just one game remaining . Both the teams played younger players in the series. Australia in particular did not seem to be too invested in this series as they have just won the ODI World cup and they gradually withdrew their world cuppers and thereby playing fringe players in final two games
