Perry, Litchfield, McGrath powers Aus W to an effortless big chase vs India W in 1st ODI
Indian mens and womens cricket team lost in cricket on the same day. Rohit Sharma's team lost Test against South Africa in Centurion. Harmanpreet Kaur & Co lost within a few minutes of that match. They lost against Australia in one day cricket. Bengal's Saika Ishaque made her debut in that match.
India batted first in the women's match on Thursday. Shefali Verma and Yastika Bhatia opened the day as Smriti Mandhana was unwell. But the pair did not succeed. Shefali got out after scoring only 1 run bowled by Darcie Brown . Yastika however scored an impressive 49 runs studded with lovely straight drives , cuts and flicks . Harmanpreet went cheaply but Jemima Rodrigues batted great on this day. She scored 82 runs off 77 balls showing her fluency on sweeps and offside strokes . India scored 282 runs with Jemima's bat. Deepti Sharma (21), Amanjyot Kaur (20) and earlier Richa Ghosh (21) batting at 3 played useful cameos .
However the final thrust came from Pooja Vastrakar who scored a blistering 62 not out studded with powerful hits . Pooja and Jemima's efforts helped India to recover from 185/7 to the final 282 score .
However, India's fight was thwarted by Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath. Renuka Singh gave Indian fans hope by dismissing Allysa Healy early on. But after that, Phoebe Litchfield (78) and Perry (75) got stuck at the crease. The pair made 148 runs. Perry played dazzling strokes while as time progressed Litchfield grew in confidence and showcased great strokes Beth Mooney (42) and Tahlia McGrath (68 not out) did the rest as Australia effortlessly chased down the big target of 282 and won by 6 wickets . Saika did not get a wicket in the debut match. Bengal spinner gave 48 runs after bowling 6 overs. Apart from Renuka, Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma took one wicket each. However, India could not win the match and now need a win in the next game to keep the series alive
