Marsh , Smith rescues Aus from 16/4 in 2nd innings v Pak , Aus lead by 241 runs

  


Pakistan vs Australia Boxing Day Test match has reached an exciting phase.  There are still 2 full days of play left in the second test match of the 3-match series.  The total lead of the Australian team has become 241 runs.  Right now they have  4 wickets in hand .  The host team had a lead of 54 runs in the first innings.  Australia looked in big trouble when the Pakistani pacers ripped through their top order in the 2nd innings  to send them reeling at 16/4  but then the century partnership of Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith brought Australia into the contest.  However, Pakistan's hopes are still alive.  The Pakistan team led by Shan Masood will have to quickly take the remaining four wickets of Australia on the fourth day.



 Australia had lost the top 4 wickets for just 16 runs in their second innings. Khawaja (0) was caught behind off an unplayable delivery of Shaheen Afridi who soon had Marnus (4) caught down the leg side . Soon after lunch Hamza had Warner (6) played on and Head was bowled first ball by a searing yorker .


 However with the help of 153-run partnership between Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh, the hosts took a significant lead on Thursday.  By stumps on the third day, Australia had scored 187 runs for 6 wickets.  Mitchell Marsh was out after scoring a belligerent 96 runs filled with dazzling drives , cuts and pulls , while Steve Smith, who played a solid and stubborn knock  was caught by Aga Khan on the personal score of 50 runs by Shaheen Afridi in the final over.  


 Earlier, captain Pat Cummins took 5 wickets in the innings for the 10th time in Test cricket and gave Australia a lead of 54 runs in the first innings.  In reply to Australia's 318 runs in the first innings, Pakistan had scored 264 runs in the first innings. Rizwan was dismissed by Cummins for 42 while Aamer Jamal (33*) and Shaheen Afridi (21) played enterprising knocks .  


 Spinner Nathan Lyon took 4 wickets for 73 runs while Hazlewood got the remaining wicket.
