Australia end 187/3 v Pak on boxing day test day 1

Solid batting by the top 3 batters in challenging conditions helped Australia to reach 187/3 on a rain marred day one of 2nd test vs Pakistan . After the openers batted solidly , Labuschagne ensured that the hosts stay ahead of the tourists.

Put in to bat in good bowling conditions Australia had a scare when Warner was dropped off a sitter very early . Both openers batted solidly thereafter to put on 90 before lunch before Warner (38) was caught in the slips off Salman on the stroke of lunch.

Post lunch , the Pakistani bowlers stepped up after a flat showing in the earlier session . Khawaja who was batting solidly and fluently , lost concentration at 42 as his cut shot off Hasan Ali was snapped up in the slips .

With cloud cover developing the conditions favoured the bowlers but Labuschagne and Smith held firm till Smith (26) was caught behind off Jamal.

At close Labuschagne (44*) and Head (9*) were batting as the hosts look the happier team .
