India women in control of test vs Aus W , Jemima, Richa , Deepti impress

India women has taken a formidable 157 run  lead over Australia women on the 2nd day of their test match . Solid batting by Mandhana followed by Jemima Rodrigues, debutant Richa Ghosh and later Deepti Sharma has put India in a very solid position from where they can control the game.

The day started with Indian women on 98/1. Nightwatchwoman Sneh Rana defended solidly till she was dismissed bowled by Gardner for 9 . Smriti was batting well , hitting crisp shots  and advancing towards her 100 in the company of debutant Richa Ghosh till she got runout for 74 . However Jemima and Richa got into a very solid 113 run stand that put India ahead . On a tough pitch Jemima was hitting her sweep shots to perfection and defending flawlessly while Richa on her debut did not look ruffled after the Smriti runout and batted with solid defence punctuating with lovely strokeplay . Richa got out soon after completing her fifty as he tried to pull Garth and was caught at deep square leg for 52 .

Rocha's dismissal triggered a collapse as Harmanpreet (0) and Yastika(1) both got out cheaply to Gardner and finally Jemima was caught at covers of Gardner for 73 .

However from 274/7 Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar  got into a great unbeaten stand of 102 runs . Deepti again batted solidly in her most productive format scoring her 4th 50 in her 4th test . She played quality shots and started to accelerate after completing her 50 and played good shots down the ground.  The normally aggressive Pooja played a controlled knock according to the situation and showed solid defence . At close Deepti (70*) and Pooja (33*) took the score to a formidable 376/7 .

For Australia, Gardner took 4 wickets on another tough day for the visitors.

It now looks an uphill task for the multi format world champions to save the test match from here on an increasingly tough pitch . India would ideally not like to bat too long in their second innings .
