Cummins leads charge as Aussie quicks rattle Pakistani batting on day 2 of 2nd test
Australia bowlers make crucial inroads in final session of the 2nd test as Pakistan batters mess up a great start .
Pakistan cricket team's struggles continues on its tour to Australia. After losing the first Test, on the second day of the Boxing Day Test, the team lost 6 wickets before 200 runs in the first innings. New captain Shan Masood played an enterprising half-century innings but former captain Babar Azam could score only 1 run.
Australia captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins on Wednesday dealt a blow to Pakistan's chances of returning to the second Test cricket match by taking 2 wickets in 4 balls. The team had started well but after that its innings faltered and by the end of the second day's play, it was struggling at 194 runs for 6 wickets. Australia had scored 318 runs in its first innings and thus it is now 124 runs ahead of Pakistan.
The second day of the game was very eventful and a total of 13 wickets fell on this day. So far, Cummins has taken three wickets for 37 runs while off-spinner Nathan Lyon has taken two wickets for 48 runs. For Pakistan, opener Abdullah Shafique(62) and captain Shan Masood (54) scored half-centuries. Both of them made a partnership of 90 runs for the second wicket. Imam(10) stayed long but could not get a big score . Shafique looked their best batter as he batted solidly and played elegant shots while Masood played with good aggresive intent as Pakistan were looking good . At one time, Pakistan team had lost 2 wickets for 124 runs and soon the score became 170 runs for 6 wickets. In this way the team lost five wickets within 46 runs. Shafique was brilliantly caught ahs bowled by Cummins who soon had Babar Azam (1) bowled through the gate . Masood skied Lyon to Marsh and Shakeel (9) was bowled by Hazlewood. At the end of the day's play, Mohammad Rizwan was playing on 29 runs and Aamer Jamal was playing on two runs.
Australia saw a half-century in the first innings. Marnus Labuschagne scored a stubborn 63 runs in 155 balls and was the highest run-scorer for the team. Usman Khawaja played a solid inningsof 42 runs while Mitchell Marsh scored a fluent 41 runs studded with dazzling strokes . Head (17) had a brief stay and the tail did not score much. Aamer Jamal took maximum 3 wickets for Pakistan. Shaheen Afridi, Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali achieved 2 successes each in a patchy bowling performance. The third and final Test cricket between these two teams will be played in Sydney from January 3. Australia won the first test match played in Perth by 360 runs.
