Video : Heavy rains & flash floods in Sikkim & North Bengal has caused widespread devastation
Sikkim and North Bengal is affected by very heavy rains and a flooded Teesta River in the Lachen Valley of the North Eastern Hill States. Due to which the army car was washed away. 23 soldiers were reported missing. According to sources, several army vehicles have sunk in the flash floods . Rescue work has already started.
According to army sources, an army vehicle was parked at Bardang near Singtam. Then suddenly flash floods came due to which those cars were washed away. The floods was created in Teesta by releasing water from Chungthang Dam. It is reported that the water level of the river has increased from 15 to 20 feet.
North Sikkim's brackish lake has overflowed due to heavy rains. The water of that lake began to enter the Teesta suddenly, causing a problem. Then the river swelled and created heavy floods . Due to this incident, landslides started to fall in a large area. According to sources, the Chungthang area has shifted from the mainland.
It is to be noted that cloudy rain started in Sikkim last night. Due to which the Teesta water has risen. The overflowing brackish lake. Several bridges were swept away by the Teesta. River water is flowing over the road in many places.
Rangpo, Melli, Singtam were the worst affected by the floods . The Indrani Bridge near Singtam was swept away by the flood around 2.30 pm yesterday. A part of National Highway No. 10 was damaged. Several parts of the road have collapsed. As a result, the important road has been closed for the time being. Which is known as one of the lifelines of Sikkim.
Residents claim that cloudy rain started in Mongan area last night. Water has also entered several houses due to the flash floods . According to sources, water has also entered some army camps in North Sikkim. The road inside the camp was also damaged.
High alert has been issued by Sikkim government due to last night's flash floods . The administration has asked the residents to evacuate from the areas adjacent to the river. On the other hand, the activity has also started in Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal. The district administration is moving the residents of the Teesta bank there too. Sikkim witnessed this type of flash floods in June this year.
Suffering in West Bengal too due to continuous rains. But at the moment there is concern about the situation in North Bengal compared to South Bengal. River Teesta is turbulent. Many places in North Bengal have been submerged due to it. That fear is coming from the mountains towards the plains. The Irrigation Department has issued a red alert in unprotected areas of Teesta. A yellow alert has been issued in the protected area. Flood situation has been created in different places.
