Cuisine : How to prepare Dabeli Masala the Gujarati street food
Dabeli masala is a spice blend used to add flavor to Dabeli, a popular Indian street food. You can make Dabeli masala at home with the following recipe:
Ingredients:
- 8-10 dried red chilies (adjust for spice level)
- 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
Instructions:
1. Dry roast the dried red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cloves, cinnamon, black peppercorns, and asafoetida in a pan over low heat. Roast until they become fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
2. Remove the roasted spices from the heat and let them cool to room temperature.
3. Once the spices are cool, transfer them to a spice grinder or a blender.
4. Add the turmeric powder to the spices in the grinder.
5. Grind the spices into a fine powder. You now have your Dabeli masala.
6. Store the Dabeli masala in an airtight container for future use. It can be used to add flavor to Dabeli and other Indian dishes.
Now you have homemade Dabeli masala ready to use for your Dabeli preparation. Adjust the quantity of dried red chilies to control the spiciness according to your preference.
