England v New Zealand  2019 World cup final

England had achieved the distinction of becoming world champion for the first time in 2019.  The World Cup 2019 final between England and New Zealand at the historic Lord's ground had become one of the most iconic and memorable World Cup finals ever in the history of the tournament.  England won the World Cup for the first time by defeating New Zealand on the basis of the controversial boundary count rule.

The final match was tied and after this the super over also ended in a tie.   The New Zealand team, which came to play the final for the second time in a row, batted first and scored 241 runs for eight wickets in regulation 50 overs.  In this, Henry Nicholas contributed a steady 55 runs and Tom Latham contributed 47 runs. Skipper Kane Williamson made 30 while the Kiwis steadily progressed to a modest 241 score . For England Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett took 3 wickets each to restrict New Zealand.

While chasing this modest target, host England had lost four wickets for 86 runs at one time in 23 overs as the Kiwi bowlers maintained tight lines to blunt the strokeplayers .Roy (17) , Bairstow (36) , Root (7) and Morgan (9) could not dominate at all .

After this, Ben Stokes (84) and Jos Buttler (59) played excellent innings and took the team to the score of 203 runs.  When England was about to reach the threshold of victory, Jimmy Neesham and Lockie Ferguson took consecutive wickets and took New Zealand towards victory.  England needed 9 runs on the last three balls of the last over of the match to become world champions for the first time.

Stokes was ready to face the fourth ball while his teammate Adil Rashid was at the other end.  Stokes scored two runs by playing the fourth ball at deep midwicket.  Stokes was going to the other end after playing the fifth ball when Martin Guptill's throw hit Stokes' bat and crossed the boundary line and England were given 6 runs.  In this way the match became tied and the match went into super over.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler came to the crease for England in the Super Over, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult gave a total of 15 runs in this over which included 2 fours.  In the Super Over, Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptill took command for New Zealand while the ball was handed over to Joffra Archer.  The first ball was wide after which Neesham hit a six on the second ball.  2 runs were needed on the last ball to win, but Guptill was run out attempting the 2nd run.

In the first ever Super Over in World Cup history, both the teams could score only 15 runs each.  New Zealand had hit 2 sixes and 14 fours in their innings, while host England had hit 2 sixes and 22 fours.  England was declared the winner on the basis of boundary rule in a dramatic end to the most epic world cup final ever .
