Virender Sehwag was born on October 20, 1978, in Najafgarh, Delhi, India. He is a former Indian cricketer who made a significant impact on the sport with his aggressive batting style and explosive performances. Sehwag primarily played as an opening batsman in both Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket for the Indian national team. 


Sehwag's cricket journey began in Delhi, where he made a name for himself in domestic cricket before earning his place in the Indian cricket team. His fearless approach to batting and ability to score at a rapid pace set him apart as one of the most entertaining and successful cricketers in the history of the sport.


Virender Sehwag, had a remarkable career with numerous achievements:


Virender Sehwag  scored 8586 runs in 104 tests at 49.34 average and  82 strike rate . Sehwag hit 23 test hundreds took 40 test wickets  with his very effective off spin .


In 251 ODIs Sehwag scored 8273 runs at  35 average and 104 strike rate . He took 96 wickets in ODIs 


In a brief T20I career Sehwag scored 394 runs in 19 games at 22 average and 145 strike rate .


Sehwag was a part of Team India in their two victorious World cup campaigns - the 2007 T20I World Cup and 2011  ODI  World cup with his stellar contributions.  His other achievements include : 



1. Two Triple Centuries: Sehwag is the only Indian cricketer to have scored two triple centuries in Test cricket. He achieved scores of 319 against South Africa in 2008 and 309 against Pakistan in 2004.


2. Fastest Triple Century: He holds the record for the fastest triple century in Test cricket, reaching 300 in just 278 balls against South Africa.


3. First Indian to Score 7,500 Runs in Tests: Sehwag was the first Indian opener to score over 7,500 runs in Test cricket.


4. Numerous Test Centuries: He scored 23 Test centuries during his career, showcasing his ability to dominate opposition bowlers.


5. Explosive Limited-Overs Batsman: Sehwag was also a dynamic player in limited-overs cricket, known for his aggressive batting. He scored a double century in ODIs,  a memorable 219 against the West Indies in 2011.


6. Part of World Cup-Winning Team: Sehwag was a part of the Indian cricket team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011.


7. Wisden Cricketer of the Year: He was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2009.


8. Numerous Awards and Recognitions: Sehwag received several awards and accolades during his career, including the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award.


Sehwag was a right handed aggressive batter and very strong on the cut and drive through the off side  including his famous upper cut . Occasionally he could hit great straight drives and on drives and strong off his legs for the flick shot.  


Sehwag's batting style and his achievements highlight his impact on Indian cricket and his status as one of the most explosive and influential cricketers of his generation.
