Tennis : Jannik Sinner beats Alcaraz, Medvedev to win China Open

 


Jannik Sinner came of age at China Open in Beijing .   Always regarded as a great future talent in tennis , the 22 year old from Italy showed his true prowess after an average season of Grand Slams .

Always known as a good returner , Sinner played some amazing tennis to beat the latest hot tennis prodigy  Carlos Alcaraz  7-6 (7-4) , 6-1 in straight sets in an unexpected semi finals result .  The first set saw Alcaraz starting well but Sinner broke back as both played some spectacular rallies and a close tiebreaker as well before Sinner prevailed and then he went on to demolish Alcaraz in the second set  6-1 to continue his good head to head record vs the Spaniard .

In the final Sinner met the Russian Daniil Medvedev who had a head to head 6-0 superiority over Sinner before the final . Medvedev had earlier beaten Zverev in the semis .

The final was a baseline slugfest with both players playing long rallies . Both the first and second sets went  on in identical fashion as both played great groundstrokes . Both sets went to the wire and then Sinner demolished Medvedev in both tiebreaks  7-2 to clinch the title in style . He also beat Medvedev for the first time in 7 meetings to make the Chinese Open title more sweetly earned .
