CWC2023 : England roars back with 137 win over Bangladesh, Malan , Topley shines
Bangladesh, who started their World Cup campaign with a win against Afghanistan, lost in the second match. On the other hand, defending champions England, who lost the first match, tasted their first victory in the competition. Jos Buttler defeated Shakib Al Hasan's team by 137 runs in Dharamshala on Tuesday.
Shakib won the toss and decided to field first. His decision didn't work very well. England scored 9 wickets for 364 runs with aggressive batting. In reply, Bangladesh's innings ended with 227 runs. Dawid Malan led England's innings in Dharamsala. His and Jonny Bairstow's opening partnership scored 115 runs. Bairstow was dismissed for 52 off 59 balls but Malan looked unstoppable at the other end of the wicket. A sparkling innings of 140 runs came from his bat. He hit 16 fours and 5 sixes. Joe Root joined him at number three. The former England captain played a dazzling innings of 82 runs off 68 balls. He decorated his innings with 8 fours and 1 six. Although Jos Buttler (20), Harry Brook (20), Liam Livingstone (0) did not get runs, the English did not have any difficulty in aiming for big runs in front of Bangladesh.
None of the Bangladeshi bowlers could control Malan or Root's aggression. Mehdi Hasan took 4 wickets for 71 runs. 3 wickets for 75 runs by Shariful Islam. Taskin Ahmed and Shakib got 1 wicket each.
Bangladesh's innings faced a batting disaster after going down to bat with a target of 365 runs to win.
