CWC2023: Van Meekeren destroys Bangladesh as Netherlands win 2nd match of world cup

 


Bangladesh has forgotten to win matches  in this World Cup.  This time Shakib Al Hasans team had to lose to the Netherlands at the Eden Gardens.  Batting first, Netherlands scored 229 runs.  The Bangladeshi batsmen struggled to chase that modest target.  The entire batting failed.  In the end, Shakib & co had to lose by 87 runs.



 This is the first match in the World Cup at Eden in Kolkata in 2023 edition .  It was seen there, the bowlers got help throughout the match.  In other words, the power of the batters, as seen in other World Cup matches, was not be seen in this field.  Bangladesh and Netherlands bowlers got help.    


 Netherlands won the toss and batted first.  They did not start well.  Both openers were out within 3 overs.  Wesley Baresi took the responsibility for the team.  He was accompanied by captain Scott Edwards.  Both of them pulled the team's runs together.  Baresi was out for 41.


 Netherlands lost some wickets in the middle overs and came under some pressure.  At one time, it seemed that they would be in trouble getting 200.  Just then, Edwards played the captain's innings again.  Sybrand Engelbrecht accompanied him.  Edwards scored another fifty.  He got out after scoring 68 runs.  Engelbrecht scored 35 runs. 


Logan van Beek hit some big shots in the last over.  In the end, Netherlands scored 229 runs in 50 overs.  Shariful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan took 2 wickets each for Bangladesh.  Shakib took 1 wicket.


 Bangladesh's batting was under pressure at the beginning when they came to bat in response.  Liton Das, Tanjim Hasan left cheaply .  The trust was on Shakib.  But once again he disappointed.  Bangladesh captain scored 5 runs.  Mehdi Hasan Miraj played a bit.  He scored 35 runs.  Bangladesh lost 6 wickets for just 70 runs against Netherlands. The  Dutch bowlers owled great lines Aryan Dutt , Van Beek controlled the lengths and the pacy Paul Van Meekeren bowled really quick and looked very dangerous getting out Shanto & Shakib caught by keeper /slips and Mushfiqur clean bowled through the gate.  


 Once again, Mahmudullah came down to bat at number seven alone.  He had to fight alone to save the team.  He did not get any batter with him.  He tried to take Mehdi with him.  A few big shots narrowed the gap.  Bangladeshi fans were hoping to see another innings like the previous match from Mahmudullah's bat.  But he could not deliver when the match was still alive and got out for 20 runs.  With him, all the hopes of Bangladesh ended.  Mustafizur and Taskin fought a bit towards the end.  However, Bangladesh could not save the loss.  They were all out for 142 runs in 42.2 overs. Meekeren later got Taskin to finish with 4/23 to get the player of the match award . De Leed got 2 wickets .


Thus Netherlands has won 2 games in this World cup to join Afghanistan and Sri Lanka on the same platform.
