RWC23: South Africa edge past New Zealand to win record 4th Rugby World Cup title

 



The Springboks outlast the All Blacks in heavyweight final to make it back-to-back crowns in Paris



Siya Kolisi scaled rare heights in Paris as South Africa edged past New Zealand 12-11 for their captain to lift a second-straight Rugby World Cupcrown.


Handre Pollard’s four penalties somehow proved just enough for the Springboks to defend their 2019 title, for a record fourth World Cup triumph.



New Zealand captain Sam Cane became the first man to be sent off in a World Cup final, for a head-high shot on Jesse Kriel.





The 32-year-old , the first-ever black Springbok captain, Kolisi is also just the second man to lift the Webb Ellis Cup twice, after New Zealand great Richie McCaw, who did it in 2011 and 2015.


The All Blacks had Shannon Frizell sin-binned just two minutes in, while the Springboks were hit with yellows for Kolisi and Cheslin Kolbe.


All Blacks full-back Beauden Barrett ran in the first-ever try against South Africa in a World Cup final, and 14-man New Zealand came so close to pulling off the near impossible.


South Africa looked spent at least four times in this contest, but somehow always found the extra tackle, the extra drive, the decisive intervention.


While captain Cane will be left to lick the wounds of his needless red card, skipper Kolisi carved his name in stone into rugby’s very annals.


New Zealand kept South Africa scoreless for the entire second half, but still the Boks battled through.


To have faced Scotland, Ireland, France, England and New Zealand and still to have triumphed speaks volumes about this squad’s tenacity, depth and spirit.

Red alert of more heavy rains in Maharashtra, closures announced in schools, colleges in some districts

  It is raining continuously in many districts of Maharashtra.  The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for 4 districts, expressing the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the state today i.e. on Thursday.  Keeping this in mind, a holiday has been declared today (July 27) for schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and Chandrapur districts.  Orange alert of rain has been issued in Raigarh district.  In such a situation, the district administration will take a decision on the basis of the situation with Raigad district.  On the other hand, July 27 has been declared a holiday for all government, private schools, all colleges, all ashram schools, business and training centers within Panvel Municipal Corporation limits.  The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai as well as Thane, Ratnagiri and Chandrapur.  In such a situation, keeping in view the possibility of heavy rains, school students of class I to 12 of all medium

Heavy rains totally disrupts train services in Mumbai area, CM orders early closure of Govt Offices

  Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, the speed of Mumbai local has slowed down.  Many trains have been cancelled and diverted. Due to heavy rains in Thane district adjacent to Mumbai, the track changing point on the Kalyan-Kasara route was damaged, due to which train services on this route were stopped on Wednesday afternoon.  A senior railway official gave this information.  The Central Railway also informed that it has diverted some mail and express trains on Diva-Panvel-Karjat route and Daund-Manmad route, besides terminating some trains between Mumbai and Pune.   Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday ordered that the government offices in Mumbai and the neighboring region should be closed early.
