Rugby WC 2023 : Australia keeps slim hopes alive , Spingboks almost in Quarters

  


Australia kept their slim hopes of reaching the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals alive with an important and hard earned  win over Portugal in their final pool match.


The Wallabies beat an impressive Portugal 34-14 to go second in Pool C.


But third-placed Fiji need just one point from their own match against Portugal next week to overtake Australia and advance instead.


Portugal had taken an early lead but the Aussies ran in five tries to secure a bonus-point win .



Australia led 24-7 at half-time and secured a fourth bonus-point try in the 47th minute.


However Portugal put up a spirited display and forced the Aussies to work for their win . 



Australia started their World Cup with a convincing win over Georgia, but were then beaten 22-15 by Fiji before suffering a record 40-6 loss to Wales.


That victory for Fiji means they only have to match Australia's points tally to advance thanks to their superior head-to-head record.


That means Australia's match with Portugal will in all likelihood be their last at this year's World Cup, having now played all four of their pool matches.


They have never before failed to advance to the knockout stages of a World Cup.


Meanwhile , South Africa overcame a strong showing from Tonga to all-but book their place in the Rugby World Cupquarter-finals, with a 49-18 win in Marseille.

Cobus Reinach, Canan Moodie, Deon Fourie, Jesse Kriel, Willie Le Roux, Marco van Staden and Kwagga Smith went over the line while Handre Pollard and Manie Libbok converted to put the defending champions top of their group on 15 points

Manipur violence : Video of brutality relating to women in Manipur goes viral

    Manipur is in the grip of ethnic violence these days, but now tension has spread in the hilly areas of Manipur over a video in which two women are being paraded naked.  According to reports, the video is from May 4 and both the women are from the Kuki community, while the men who are parading the women naked are all from the Meitei community.  Tribal organization Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum has demanded action against the culprits.  According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, the incident took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, about 35 km from state capital Imphal.  At the same time, no one has been arrested by the police in this case.  It can be clearly seen in the video that the men are continuously molesting the helpless women who are crying and begging them to leave.  Condemning this heinous act, an ITLF spokesperson demanded that the central and state governments, the National Commission for Women and the National Commission...
