The Mohun Bagan footballers started in an aggressive mood from the start at Yuva Bharati Sports Stadium on Wednesday.  They did not give much opportunity to Nepali footballers.  Mohun Bagan got a chance to score in the first minute.  But Ashiq Kurunian hit the ball outside.   Mohun Bagan used both ends of the pitch more to attack on this day.  In the 7th minute, Subhashis Basu, Aniruddha Thapa, Brendan Hamills formed an attack with great understanding .  In this case too, Ashique wasted an easy opportunity.  On the other hand, Machindra footballers were trying to create attacks by playing small passes.  But before entering the Mohun Bagan box, they were losing the ball.  Mohun Bagan had to wait till 39 minutes to get the first goal despite dominating the game.  Anwar headed the corner of Hugo Bumos.  Before this, however, Mohun Bagan had several opportunities to advance.

The Australian World Cup player, who failed to attract attention in the big match, got a goal on Wednesday.  He scored his first goal in the Mohun Bagan jersey in the 65th minute.  After leading by 2-0, Mohun Bagan footballers were in the mood to waste some time.  In that opportunity, the Nepalese club scored a goal in the 78th minute.  However, that did not stop Mohun Bagan from winning.  Anwar secured Mohun Bagan's victory by scoring his second goal in the 85th minute.  He headed Dimitri Petratos' free kick and scored.

Mohun Bagan's next match in the AFC Cup qualifiers is on August 22.  If they win that match against Dhaka Abahani, the green-maroon brigade will qualify to play in the group stage of the competition.  But on this day, Mohun Bagan footballers' show of wasted opportunities can keep coach Ferrando in mind.
