North Indian dish Paneer Tikka : How to prepare
Paneer Tikka is a popular Indian appetizer made with marinated and grilled paneer (Indian cottage cheese) cubes. Here's a simple recipe to prepare Paneer Tikka at home:
**Ingredients:**
For the Marinade:
- 250 grams of paneer, cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup thick yogurt
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
For the Skewers:
- Wooden skewers (soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning)
For Garnish:
- Onion rings
- Lemon wedges
- Fresh coriander leaves
**Instructions:**
1. In a mixing bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients - yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, lemon juice, vegetable oil, and salt.
2. Mix the marinade well until it forms a smooth paste.
3. Add the paneer cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are coated evenly. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Marinating longer (up to 4 hours) can enhance the flavor.
4. Preheat your grill or oven to 200°C (392°F).
5. Thread the marinated paneer cubes onto the soaked wooden skewers. You can alternate them with pieces of bell pepper, onion, or tomato for extra flavor and color.
6. Place the skewers on the grill or in the oven on a lined baking tray.
7. Grill or bake for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the paneer is charred and has a smoky flavor. You can also baste the paneer with a little oil or butter during grilling for added flavor.
8. Once done, remove the skewers from the grill or oven.
9. Serve the Paneer Tikka hot, garnished with onion rings, lemon wedges, and fresh coriander leaves.
Paneer Tikka is often served with mint chutney or tandoori sauce. It makes for a delicious appetizer or a side dish in an Indian meal. Enjoy!
