FIFAWWC : Spain women reaches final after exciting finish vs Sweden
Spain are in Women's Soccer World Cup final. Spain defeated Sweden 2-1 in the first semi-final on Tuesday. All three goals came in the last nine minutes of the match. This is the first time Spain reached the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup.
Both sides attacked in the last 10 minutes to win the match which was goalless till 80 minutes. Spain scored the winning goal in the 89th minute of the match. Sweden got the first goal chance in the match. In the 15th minute of the first half , Cannerid scored from the head. But the goal was ruled out for offside. Spain also had an easy chance to score in the 39th minute as Banmati's shot wide wide from close range . Sweden's footballers also created scoring opportunities in the counter attack. Spain's goalkeeper Batley prevented the team from collapsing with impeccable skill. In the 45th minute, she thwarted Sweden's goal attempt once more.
After a goalless first half, both sides were desperate for a goal in the second half. One attack after another made the game exciting , but neither team could score. The game is concentrated in attack-counterattack. In the 70th minute, Spain failed to score despite breaking Sweden's defence. Redondo gets the ball from the left into the box in a comfortable position. Her shot wide wide. Sweden looked more dominant as the match progressed but Spanish coach made the crucial substitution and brought in number 18 youngster, the attacking forward Salma Paralluelo which started to change the momentum towards Spain .
Spain got the much-desired goal in the 81st minute. Substitute Salma Paralluelo who scored in the extra time vs Netherlands in an epic quarter final , took the ball from Hermoso and took a brilliant right footer shot on goal. With the help of 'var', the referee decided to upheld the goal as the Spanish attacker in offside position did not impact the goal .
The Swedes did not give up despite falling behind. They became desperate to get the equaliser and finally equalized in the 88th minute. Hurtig headed the ball into the box for her teammate. Rebecca Blomkvist, another transformed footballer, did not make a mistake in scoring as she was unmarked . After Sweden equalised, many would have thought the game would go to extra time. But that thought was proved wrong by Olga Carmona who scored the second goal for Spain in the next minute. The Spain captain scored the winning goal for the team just 94 seconds after Sweden equalized. Her long-range left-footed shot from outside the box beat Sweden goalkeeper Andersson.
Neither side could score again in 8 minutes of injury time. This time, however, both sides created a good chance to score a goal. Neither team could exploit it and finally the talented Spaniards reached the final where they will meet the winner of the high profile Australia vs England semi final to be played at Sydney .
