Former captain of the Indian cricket team and former president of BCCI Sourav Ganguly  gave a strong reaction to the incident of a first year student's mysterous death  in Jadavpur.  Sourav said at an event in Kolkata on Friday, "It is a very sad incident.  Legislation to stop ragging needs to be brought in soon.”

When Sourav was asked about the Jadavpur incident on Friday, he said, “University is a place to study.  That should be the main goal.  Strict laws should be made to stop ragging.'' The former India captain strongly condemned the whole incident. Ganguly  said, an educational institution can never run without a healthy environment.  "Dada" talked about ragging-free education.

Education, civil society and politics are in turmoil over the incident of student death in Jadavpur.  Kolkata Police's Homicide Wing has so far arrested nine people including former and current students.  On Friday, a student was taken to the hostel and the police reconstructed the incident of that night.  According to police sources, some more people will be interrogated.

Many claim that the overall internal disorganization of the five-star university has become disgraceful due to the death of the student who came to study from Nadia.  Meanwhile, Lalbazar has interrogated Dean of Students Rajat Roy and Registrar Snehmanju Basu.

Last August 9, Wednesday night, the first year student of Bengali Department was rescued under the A-2 block of the university hostel.  His house is in Nadia.  He died in hospital early Thursday morning.  The student's family alleged that the death was due to ragging.  The student's father has filed a murder complaint against the hostel residents for his son's death.  Kolkata Police registered a case based on the complaint of murder.

Already a lot of testaments of the arrested senior students were taken and there has been conflicting answers leading to further suspicion on the reason of death . The whole incident has led to an uproar in the city .

In the case of the death of the first year student, questions have also been raised about the administrative system of Jadavpur University.  According to many, Sourav also wanted to indicate that by referring to the environment of education and educational institutions.
