Himachal Pradesh floods situation critical , death toll increases

  



Nature has wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh Floods.  At least 71 people have died so far in floods and landslides after heavy rains.  According to officials, 13 bodies have been recovered from the collapsed Shiv Bawri temple in Summer Hills area of ​​Shimla.  Locals still estimate that there could be 21 bodies at the site.  The rescue operation continues on Wednesday, 16 August as well.


 Onkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary, Disaster Management said that till now we have received an estimate of loss of Rs 7,500 crore, it may increase.  In the last 3-4 days, we have shifted 2,500 people to safer places.


 In Shimla's Krishna Nagar, 4 to 8 houses were washed away in flood water.  Not only Shimla, the condition of many areas of Himachal Pradesh is similar.  In Kangra too, there is a flood-like situation due to the increase in the water level of the Pong Dam after the rains.  Here 6 teams of NDRF have been deployed to handle the situation and help the people.


 Airforce is also engaged in airlifting people.  More than 800 people were evacuated from low-lying areas of Kangra after communication with the village has been cut off due to rising water level in the dam.


 The Chief Minister has held a meeting to review the relief and rescue operations in Shimla.  The situation is more or less the same in Ropar district of Punjab.  NDRF teams are engaged in evacuating the flood affected people.



 Talking to news agency PTI, CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that we have already estimated an estimated loss of Rs 10,000 crore.  He said, "I believe that such a disaster has never happened in Himachal Pradesh. I have called two meetings on the crisis and we will handle the situation."
