India win 1st T20I vs Ireland on DLS by 2 runs
The 1st T20I between Ireland and India had a disappointing ending due to rain, which cut short a potentially competitive game . Ireland after early struggles managed to put on 139 and then India after a bright start had lost 2 wickets in 2 balls for 47 before rains halted play for good and finally the game was called off with India 2 runs ahead on DLS method after playing 6.5 overs and thus winning the game after no play was possible .
India is led by Jasprit Bumrah in this series and Bumrah is making a comeback after 11 months while Prasidh Krishna was also returning to the team after a long injury layoff
Put into bat first after losing the toss , Ireland were rocked early by Bumrah himself as Balbirne was bowled by Bumrah in the very first over off the inside edge for 4 and then Tector was out to an ill advised lap shot to Bumrah as Ireland lost 2 in the very first over . Sterling (11) and Tector(8) were out cheaply within the powerplay and Dockrell (1) was out soon after as Ireland sank to 31/5 with Prasidh also getting 2 wickets.
When Mark Adair (16) after resisting for a while got out lbw to Bishnoi , the hosts at 59/6 looked in danger of finishing below 100. However Curtis Campher (39) and Barry McCarthy (51 no off 33 balls) got into a highly productive stand of 57 runs with quality batting before Campher was bowled by Arshdeep . However McCarthy played some explosive shots towards the end and finished in a blaze of glory against Arshdeep smashing a couple of huge sixes to get Ireland to a competitive score of 139/7 as Bumrah , Prasidh and Bishnoi took 2 wickets apiece . Both Bumrah and Prasidh looked in good rhytm in their respective comeback games after a long layoff which is very good news for the Indian selectors .
In reply India started brightly with Jaiswal smacking a couple of boundaries through the off side in the first over . Both Jaiswal and Gaikwad looked to score briskly and both played some sparkling shots before Jaiswal (24) lost his wicket to a pull shot and off the very next ball Tilak Verma was caught down legside. Gaikwad (19*) and Samson (1*) were there at the crease when the rains came down and the match was later called off after 6.5 overs of India innings. India were 2 runs ahead on Duckworth Lewis system and thus were declared the winners . Bumrah for his good bowling and 2 wickets was the player of the match .
