Asia Cup 23: Sri Lanka outlasts Bangladesh in low scoring game , Pakistan walloped Nepal
After Pakistan crushed Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023 opener , the second match of Asia Cup 2023 was played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on 31 August. In this exciting match, the Sri Lankan team managed to win by five wickets. Charit Asalanka looked in good rhythm while chasing the target. Batting at number five, he made a glorious unbeaten half-century innings of 62 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 67.39. During this, five fours and one six came from his bat.
Batting first after winning the toss in Pallekele, the Bangladeshi team managed to score 164 runs in 42.4 overs. Najmul Hussain Shanto managed to score the most runs while batting at the third position for the team. He faced a total of 122 balls against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, he managed to score 89 runs at a strike rate of 72.95 and singlehandedly kept the Bangladesh innings together while all the other top players failed . During this period, seven fours came off Shanto's bat. Tauhid Hridayoy was the second highest scorer of the team after Shanto. Hridayoy contributed 20 runs.
The most successful bowler for Sri Lanka was Mathisha Pathirana. He bowled a total of 7.4 overs for his team. Meanwhile, spending 32 runs managed to get maximum four success and he bowled at good pace. Apart from Pathirana, Mahesh Theekshana got two and Dhananjay de Silva, Dunith Velez and Captain Dasun Shanaka got one success respectively.
Chasing the target, Sri Lanka were in early trouble when Taskin Ahmed bowled Karunaratne cheaply with a brute of a delivery. Nissanka and Kusal Mendis too went cheaply to put Sri Lanka in trouble at 43/3 but two batsmen managed to score half-centuries for Sri Lanka. Aslanka batting at number five where he managed to score an unbeaten 62 off 92 balls. While batting at number four, Sadeera Samarawickrama contributed 54 runs in 77 balls at a strike rate of 70.12 while playing some gorgeous shots . Apart from these two batsmen, other Sri Lankan batsmen struggled .
Captain Shakib Al Hasan managed to get maximum two successes for Sri Lanka. Apart from them, Taskin Ahmed, Shorful Islam and Mehdi Hasan managed to take one wicket each.
Meanwhile , Pakistan crush Nepal to win the opening game of Asia Cup 2023
A masterly 151 from Babar Azam and a blistering 109 from Ifthikar Ahmed helped Pakistan to crush minnows and associate nation Nepal in the first game of the Asia Cup .
Winning the toss and batting first , Pakistan did not start well as both openers fell cheaply with Imam Ul Haq out to a great run out .
However Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan arrested any collapse and took Pakistan score to a good position before Rizwan (44) was freakishly runout . Nepal did gain a few more wickets in the middle before Ifthikar came out and played a blistering innings of 109 not out in 71 balls . His 100 and Babar's 151 helped Pakistan to get to an imposing 342 .
In reply the inexperienced batting lineup of Nepal was never in the hunt and kept losing wickets to be all out for 104 .There was a bit of middle order resistance but Shadab took 4 wickets with other bowlers chipping in and Pakistan winning by a huge margin of 238 runs
