BCCI announces Asia Cup ODI squad , Chahal , Dhawan notable omissions

 



India has announced the 17-man squad for the Asia Cup.  This team has been selected keeping in mind the one-day World Cup on the country's soil.  Two injured cricketers Shreyas Iyer and Lokesh Rahul have returned to the Indian team.  Tilak Verma is a new face in the team.  Sanju Samson has been kept as the reserve cricketer.



 The BCCI selection committee met on Monday.  Apart from the five selectors, team coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit were present there.  He was also an official of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.  He gave the information about the physical condition of the injured cricketers.  Later, Agarkar and Rohit announced the team in a press conference.


Notable inclusions are Surya Kumar Yadav , who is yet to ace the ODI format and Prasidh Krishna who is back from injury along with Bumrah 


Amongst big names exclusions are Yazuvendra Chahal, Ravi Ashwin  and  Shikhar Dhawan . Both  Chahal and Ashwin has been in and out of the Indian white ball  teams in recent times and as per Ajit Agarkar,  Shubman Gill is the preferred opener now ahead of  veteran Shikhar Dhawan who has performed very well for India in ODIs and ICC events in his career but selectors are now looking ahead .



KL Rahul is likely to keep wickets if he is in the starting XI which is very likely . He is reported to be a bit sore but is expected to be fit before the Asia cup starts 


Talking about team selections and batting orders , India captain Rohit Sharma  said that team members are aware of their roles and the batters have to be ready to bat at any positions if needed . He said that Rahul is currently a bit sore but he is fit and will be ready by the time the Asia Cup starts .
