Spanish snack Churros - how to prepare
Churros are a popular Spanish and Latin American snack or dessert consisting of deep-fried dough, typically with a ridged or star-shaped appearance. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, often sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon for extra flavor. They are commonly served with a dipping sauce, such as chocolate, caramel, or dulce de leche.
Here's a basic recipe for making churros at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, combine the water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball of dough. This is your churro dough.
3. Heat the oil for frying in a deep-fryer or a large, deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
4. Spoon the churro dough into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
5. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil using a pastry bag. You can make them as long or as short as you like.
6. Fry the churros until they are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
7. Remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
8. In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and cinnamon. Roll the hot churros in the sugar-cinnamon mixture until coated.
9. Serve the churros warm with your favorite dipping sauce, like chocolate or caramel.
Enjoy your homemade churros!
