Women's top seed Iga Swiatek also had no trouble making it to the third round. But Wednesday night's US Open witnessed several incidents. Last time runner-up Casper Rudd was knocked out. Seventh seed Stefanos Tsitipas is also out. As a result, the fight has become easier for Djokovic to qualify for another Grand Slam final
Djokovic beat Bernabe Zapata Mirayes 6-4, 6-1, 6-1. In the beginning, he was having a lot of trouble with the first serve while his opponent was playing some great rallies . Novak made several unforced errors but after pocketing the hard fought first set, he slowly started to regain his form. He did not let the opponent stand in the second and third set. The best tennis comes out of his racket even in the heat. He hit a total of 35 winners in the match. Djokovic faces compatriot Laszlo Zer in the third round.
China's Zhang Zhizhen made history at Flushing Meadows. He beat world number five Rudd. The 26-year-old won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2. The match lasted for over three hours. Zhang hit a total of 59 winners. This is the first time a Chinese player has beaten a player in the world's top five since the ATP Rankings began in 1973. He will play against Australian Rinke Hijikata in the third round.
Zhang played a five-set match against Australia's JJ Wolf in the first round. The same fighting spirit was seen in the second match as well. He took his tennis to another level. On the other hand, Rudd didn't have that quickness. After winning the fourth set 6-0, he practically surrendered in the fifth set.
The same thing was seen in the Tsitipas game. The seventh-seeded Greek lost 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 3-6 to Switzerland's Dominic Stricker. The number 128 player in the world came to play the US Open for the first time. His strong serve, forehand and net play put the Greek far behind in the fight. So far, Tsitipas has never made it past the third round at the US Open. This time the fight stopped in the second round.
Like Zhang, a Chinese player has also won the title in the women's category. She is Zhu Lin. Defeated Victoria Azarenka in the second round. The result is 6-3, 6-3 in favor of Lynn.
