IPL24: SRH & Bhuvi snatches unlikely win as Rajasthan lose a thriller by 1 run
Its name is cricket. Purists complain that the quality of cricket is being lost in the IPL due to the excess of four-sixes. But the Rajasthan-Hyderabad match on Thursday saw a wonderful coexistence of bat and ball. In the end, the way Hyderabad won due to Bhuvneshwar's bowling proved again that cricket is always the 'glorious game of uncertainty' irrespective of the format. An experienced Indian swing bowler raised the flag of the bowlers again in the reign of the batters.
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and decided to bat first. Pat Cummins & Co didn't get off to a good start against Rajasthan Royals, who are at the top of the league table. They lost two wickets for 35 runs as Abhishek (12) and Anmolpreet (5) went cheaply. By that time the game was in the sixth over. But Nitish turned the game around by forming a great stand with Head. Nitish scored an unbeaten 76 off 42 balls with 8 sixes as he played a glorious knock full of breathtaking strokes from the authentic drives to outrageous reverse sweeps . On the other hand Travis Head made a comparatively more sedate 58 off 44 balls with 3 sixes and after initial struggles he got back his bearings and played glorious shots towards the end . Heinrich Klaasen played well afterwards. He also remained unbeaten with a blistering 42 off 19 balls with 3 sixes . As a result, Hyderabad had no problem to reach 200. On this day, Chahal put on a horrible performance. The spinner who got a chance in the T20 World Cup gave 62 runs in his four overs! Where none of the rest averaged even 10 runs per over, he gave more than 15 runs.
Rajasthan started the innings with 202 runs to win . Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the war horse of many, surprised in the first over. Bhuvi sent back Buttler (0) caught in the slips by Jansen off an outswinger on the second ball and Sanju Samson (0) was bowled by a lethal inswinger on the fifth ball that rattled his stumps . The loss of two valuable wickets in this way definitely increased the pressure on the Rajasthan team. Rajasthan won four matches in a row. A win on this day would have practically cleared the knockout seat. But in the beginning, the supporters of the team started to see the loss due to the loss of quick 2 wickets.
However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag soon brought the fight to the opposing camp with a thrilling century stand. Jaiswal was dropped by Cummins during the powerplay and thus took full toll of the catch drop . Jaiswal scored a sparkling fifty off 30 balls and Parag scored a glorious fifty off 31 balls. Hyderabad looked virtually helpless after their partnership was going strong . While Jaiswal was driving or cutting through the gaps or pulling with fierce intent , Parag's enormous & power packed 6s over midwicket and his other shots proved that he is ready to play for India .
Who knew the magic of Bhuvi at the beginning of the innings will be seen on the last night!
Rajasthan would not have lost this game if Jaiswal (67) was not bowled by being extra adventurous. The new star of Indian cricket Jaiswal went on to build the foundation of the match by hitting 7 boundaries and 2 sixes in the 40-ball innings. He hit a six before getting out and wanted to show that the team's innings control is in his hands. Parag was also caught at long-on while trying to play the pick up shot (77). The top scorer of the match hit 8 boundaries and 4 fierce sixes. And after that, the game gradually started to tilt towards Hyderabad. In the 17th over of the match, Natarajan practically brought the match to a 50-50 situation with a delivery that dismissed the dangerous Heytmer (13) . Dhruv Jurel was dismissed at the start of the next over by Pat Cummins . No condemnation seems to be enough for the shot he got out as coming over the pads. Such a shot is not expected especially from a budding star in those circumstances of the match. The situation was full of tension as after 5 great balls from Cummins in the 19th over , the sixth was smashed by Powell for a massive six over cover Bhuvneshwar Kumar came to bowl in the very last over with 13 required off 6 balls. After a flicked 4 the equation was 3 balls 6 runs . At the end, 1 ball was left to 2. And that's when Powell (27 off 15) is out. He faltered while flicking the full ball that come down to leg-middle. The bowler appealed and was given out . Player of the match Bhuvneshwar's magic ball gave Hyderabad a stunning victory by the barest of margins as the fans were jumping with joy after the win.
