IPL24 : Rajasthan suffers 4th loss in a row as Curran powers Punjab to consolation win

Punjab Kings jolts Rajasthan  Royals by relying on the captain's brilliant half-century.  Sam Curran's masterly 66  defeated Rajasthan Royals, who were assured of playoffs, at their home ground.  Losing four matches in a row, it now  became difficult for Sanju Samsons team to stay in the top two of the points table.

Rajasthan Royals had confirmed the playoffs of IPL 2024 before coming down to play the match on Wednesday.  On the other hand, Punjab Kings were practically at the bottom of the points table.  This match was not of much importance in the book of Punjab.  But in that match, Punjab fought tooth and nail.  They have also improved slightly in the points table.  On the other hand, it became more difficult for Rajasthan to stay in the top two of the points table.  They have lost four matches in a row.  In the last match of the group stage, they have to play against KKR who are at the top of the points table.

Rajasthan played at their 'second home' in Guwahati.  Ryan Parag's home field is the adopted venue of the team this season.  Sanju won the toss and decided to bat.  But the Rajasthan batsmen succumbed to Harshal-Curran's tight bowling on a slow pitch. Yashasvi  Jaiswal (4) was bowled in the first over by Curran . Cadmore (18) had a struggling stay and Samson (18) fell cheaply to further dent Rajasthan's hopes .  The Royals' run reached 144 based on Ryan Parag's 48-run innings alone and with some support from Ashwin (28) .  Harshal , Rahul Chahar and Curran took 2 wickets each .

Punjab Kings also got into trouble chasing the target.  Pravsimran Singh,Jonny Bairstow and Shashank Singh got out quickly. Russouw (22) started well but went cheaply   But Sam Curran played a captain's innings keeping a cool head under pressure.  He did not let the pace of runs decrease even if the wicket fell on the opposite side.  In the end, he scored 63 runs off 41 balls and remained unbeaten with good support from Jitesh (22) and Ashutosh (17*) cameos.  Avesh and Chahal took 2 wickets each for Punjab and bowled well .  Punjab won the match with one over remaining with Curran bagging the man of the match in his last game of the season
