IPL24: CSK keeps playoffs hopes alive with 5 wkt win over Rajasthan Royals

Chennai Super Kings  registered a much needed win over Rajasthan Royals at home to keep their hopes of a playoffs spot alive . In a low scoring game CSK beat  Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets in the 19th over after a strong performance from their bowling unit in hot conditions

Needing a win to confirm qualification for playoffs Rajasthan Royals batting first ,  started sedately. Rajasthan's two openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, are known as fluent scorers but could not keep the Chennai bowlers under pressure from the start.  Tushar Deshpande gave only three runs in the first over.  4 in the next over.  7 in his next over.  Despite 13 runs from Mahish Theekshana's over, the Royals scored only 42 runs in the power play on a pitch where the ball was coming slow & stopping

CSK broke the opening pair at the end of the power play.  Jaiswal(24) was dismissed by Simarjit Singh trying to go for a pull .  Buttler too (21) got out after two overs dismissed by Simarjeet.  The English batsman scored 21 runs off 25 balls, which is no match for his aggressive mentality.  Even Sanju Samson or Ryan Parag were struggling to score runs fluently.

Rajasthan made only 61 after 10 overs at six per over rate.  Compared to the speed at which runs are being scored in the IPL this time, it is quite low.  It is clear how difficult it is to score runs after seeing every batter.  Shot play was not at all straightforward on this pitch.

Samson (15) got out after a timid innings and it was only after Dhruv Jurel joining with Riyan Parag  that Rajasthan got some quick runs at thd backend . Jurel after a quickfire 28 in 18 balls was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande who dismissed Shuvam Dubey on the next ball .

At the end, Ryan Parag continued to play aggressive and finished at 47 not out off 35 balls as Rajasthan Royals reached  141/5 . For CSK both Simarjeet (3/38) and Deshpande (2/30) bowled impressively to get the wickets.

It is almost impossible to win with such low score despite a slow pitch .  Rajasthan had some chances if they could pick up wickets in the beginning.  But Sandeep Sharma gave 12 runs in the second over of the match.  Instead, the spin pair of Ashwin-Chahal kept Chennai under pressure.  Rachin Ravindra (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) played important cameos while Gaikwad kept rotating the strike.  As the match progressed, Chennai's scoring rate decreased. Moeen (10) fell cheaply but Shivam Dube scored a quickfire 18 in 11 balls to calm CSK nerves.  Ruturaj (42) played a steady innings like a captain but Jadeja(5) got out for obstructing the field.  There are still 21 runs left to win the match.  Running through the middle of the crease, Sanju's ball hit him on the back.  When the umpire gave him out, he got really upset.  Even though Jadeja returned, there was no moment of worry for Ruturaj as he and Rizvi (15*) saw through to the end with a few boundaries. Chennai won the match by 5 wickets and kept their playoffs hopes alive . Good bowling by thd spinners Ashwin (2 wickets ) abd Chahal (1 wicket) was not enough to stop CSK from winning the game .
