Eng v Pak T20Is : Buttler , bowlers powers Eng to victory over Pak in 2nd T20I
Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer performed brilliantly as England defeated Pakistan by 23 runs at Edgbaston on Saturday night to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match T20 series. After the first match was washed out due to rain, the Pakistani bowlers were thrashed in the second match. Batting first after losing the toss, England scored 182 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the scoreboard on the basis of Jos Buttler's blazing innings of 84 runs in 51 balls. In reply, the Pakistani team was all out for just 160 runs in 19.2 overs. Fast bowler Jofra Archer, who was returning from injury after a long time, took two wickets for 28 runs in four overs. In this way, the English managed to win the match by 23 runs in the second match of this important series being played before the T20 World Cup. The first match was cancelled due to rain.
Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first and dismissed left-handed batsman Phil Salt, who was scoring a lot of runs in the IPL, in the fourth over for 13 runs. After losing the first wicket at a score of 25 runs, Will Jacks and Jos Buttler shared a 71-run partnership for England. Jacks, who was coming after scoring a century in the IPL for RCB, was dismissed after scoring 37 runs in 23 balls. New batsman Jonny Bairstow built another strong stand with Butler and continued the attack on the Pakistani bowlers.
Bairstow and Butler took England to 144 within 15 overs, looking like they were set for a big score. However, England's middle order collapsed as Pakistan came back into the match. Afridi shook the batting order as players like Harry Brook, Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan could not even reach double digits. In the end, Jofra Archer scored 12 runs in four balls to help the score reach 183. For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi took 3 wickets for 36 runs.
Chasing the target, Pakistan suffered a setback in the beginning when they lost Mohammad Rizwan for 0 and Reece Topley dismissed Sam Ayub for 2 runs in 7 balls. Captain Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman handled the situation by sharing a 53-run partnership. Babar was out LBW on Moeen Ali's ball after scoring 32 runs off 26 balls. From here the collapse of the visiting team started and in 4.2 overs their score went from 67 runs for 3 wickets to 100 runs for 6 wickets. Iftikhar Ahmed and Imad Wasim shared a 40-run partnership. From here Jordan, Archer and Topley bundled out the entire team for just 20 runs.
