IPL24: CSK breaks Punjab jinx to take a step closer to playoffs

Ravindra Jadeja turned on a fine all round show (43 runs , 3 wickets ) as Chennai Super Kings finally broke the 5 match losing streak to Punjab Kings since 2021 and finally beat them convincingly by 28 runs at Dharamshala in the away game . With this impressive win on a slowish deck that helped their spinners, CSK has moved one step closer to the playoffs while Punjab 's slim chances have receded further .

Put into bat first  CSK lost Rahane cheaply again but Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell got into a good partnership with both playing some glorious strokes till Rahul Chahar's first teo balls halted CSK's charge . 1st Gaikwad (32) was caught behind and then Shivam Dube was caught behind too on a first ball duck . Soon Mitchell (30) was lbw to Harshal .

Ravindra Jadeja tried to hold the innings together but lost Moeen (17) and Santner (11) just when partnerships were developing . Shardul (17) after a few lusty hits was castled by a Harshal Patel slower one who quietened the CSK fans next ball but clean bowling Dhoni next ball . Jadeja (43) after a couple of big hits fell to Arshdeep in the last over as CSK ended the innings at a modest 167/9 . For Punjab both Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel were excellent with 3 wickets each while Arshdeep took 2 wickets but was a bit expensive

In reply CSK hit back with Deshpande bowling with pace to clean bowl  Bairstow (7) & Russouw (0) cheaply.  Prabhsimran and Shashank played impressive shots to stitch a 50 run stand but Shashank after a promising 27 was dismissed by Santner being caught in the outfield . Prabsimran (30) followed soon mistiming a shot off Jadeja and that led to a batting slump with Curran(7) and Ashutosh (3) getting dismissed by Jadeja while Jitesh (0) was dismissed by Simarjeet Singh . Some late flourishes by Harshal (12) ,  Rahul Chahar (16) and Brar  only delayed the inevitable as Punjab went down by 28 runs ending at 139/9 .

For CSK,   player of the match,    Jadeja took 3 wickets on a pitch that was a bit slow . Pacers Deshpande and Simarjeet took 2 wickets each .
