IPL24: Abhishek powers SRH to 4 wkt win over Punjab , SRH reach 17 points

Sunrisers Hyderabad won last match in the league stage in IPL.  They defeated Punjab Kings by 4 wickets on Sunday.  With this win, Hyderabad moved up to second place in the points table.  But whether they can retain the place or not depends on the Rajasthan Royals vs Kolkata Knight Riders match.

Batting first, Punjab's two Indian openers Atharva Tawde (46) and Prabhasimran Singh (71) made a pair of 97 runs. Both the openers displayed savage strokeplay against a timid SRH attack .  Riley Russouw scored a sparkling 49 runs. However both Sashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma got out cheaply . Coming to bat in the last stages , the Punjab captain of this match, Jitesh Sharma scored a rapid 32 runs off 15 balls.  Punjab scored 214 runs under their influence.

Hyderabad had to play till the last over to chase that big target .  Arshdeep Singh bowled Travis Head on the very  first ball to give Punjab a great start .  But that shock was handled by Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi.  Tripathi back in the XI after a long time came out all guns blazing and moved into the 20s in no time . Soon Abhishek got into his top gear and started playing breathtaking shots particularly his sublime sixes The pair scored  72 runs in rapid pace .    Rahul scored 33 runs in 18 balls and was out to a slower ball from Harshal Patel . Abhishek looked a sublime touch and scored 66 runs off 28 balls .  Nitish Reddy (37) and Heinrich Klassen (42) scored quick runs and ensured that there were no late order hiccups  Hyderabad scored the winning run in 19.1 overs after losing 6 wickets.

Punjab was already knocked out of the IPL.  Playing with a foreigner, Punjab had nothing to gain from this match.  Most of the party went back to foreign countries.  Skipper Shikhar Dhawan could not play almost the entire IPL due to injury.  Punjab ended the IPL is also with another loss.

With the win, Hyderabad moved up to the second position in the points table.  They got 17 points.  Rajasthan Royals face Kolkata Knight Riders in the last match of the league stage.  If Rajasthan wins that match, they will finish second.  But if they lose, they will be stuck in the third place.  Hyderabad is now waiting for Rajasthan to lose.
