Image
While we take stocks on various events of 2023 as we come to the end of another year , the way Australian cricket shaped up in 2023 was mind blowing .  2023 has certainly been one of the greatest years of Australian cricket ever particularly from June onwards .  The year started with Australia winning their home test series vs South Africa which was on expected lines .  Then of course they had their disappointment in the Border Gavaskar series of 4 test matches in India losing it by 2-1 and thus failing in their quest of conquering their final frontier .  However that one test win at Indore confirmed their final spot for the World test Championship vs India .  The turnaround started when Australia beat India in 3 match ODI series by 2-1  giving them the belief for the world cup later in the year .  The World test Championship final was held at the Oval London and Australia played outstanding cricket in another final beating India by 209 runs to win the World test Championship for 202

In the ODI series that followed soon after  , India went on to lose to Australia by 2-1 .  The much awaited WTC final of the 2021-23 cycle was played at the Oval London between India and Australia  . India had a chance to create history after their loss in the previous cycle but magnificent batting by the Aussies on day one put India on the backfoot  from which they never recovered and went on to lose by

The Indian women's cricket team had to face defeat in the second consecutive match of the three-match ODI series against Australia and lose the same.  Even wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh's mature innings of 96 runs could not help the team win.  After winning the toss and batting first, the Australian team scored 258 runs for 8 wickets due to some good Indian spin bowling .  The Indian team failed to achieve this target and could score only 255 runs at the loss of 8 wickets.  By winning the match by 3 runs, the visiting team took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.  From India's side, young wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh kept the team in the match by playing a brilliant innings of 96 runs.  Coming close to her first ODI century, she missed completing it by just 4 runs.  Richa played this innings hitting 13 fours in 117 balls.  For India, Jemimah Rodrigues played a crucial innings of 44 runs and had a fruitful stand with Richa  while opener Smriti Mandhana scored a sparkli

Image
India is under increasing pressure in the first Test.  South Africa have already led by 11 runs.  Five wickets still in hand.  Dean Elgar is at the crease and batting solidly .  It will be difficult for India to maintain the momentum of the match if they fail to pick up wickets at the start of the third day.  South Africa score 256/5 at the end of the second day.  India scored 245 runs in the first innings.  India started the second day's play with 208 runs for 8 wickets.  At that time Rahul was batting for 70 runs.  Siraj was with him.  It was not easy to make fast runs in cloudy weather.  Kagiso Rabada was bowling on the first day.  So Rahul plans to run against the rest of the bowlers.  He was playing like that.  Siraj accompanied him.  Rahul reached 95 runs by hitting sixes from 89 runs.  It looked like he would get his century in the next over.  But Siraj got out in that over.  The only one left was Prasidh Krishna.  Somehow he held his own.  Rahul hit the last ball of that

Both openers batted solidly thereafter to put on 90 before lunch before Warner (38) was caught in the slips off Salman on the stroke of lunch.  Post lunch , the Pakistani bowlers stepped up after a flat showing in the earlier session . Khawaja who was batting solidly and fluently , lost concentration at 42 as his cut shot off Hasan Ali was snapped up in the slips . With cloud cover developing the conditions favoured the bowlers but Labuschagne and Smith held firm till Smith (26) was caught behind off Jamal.
